Radio comedy at its best
If you could sum up John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme: The Complete Series 1 in three words, what would they be?
Witty; funny; warm.
What was one of the most memorable moments of John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme: The Complete Series 1?
There are plenty of memorable moments - too many to list. It helps that John Finnemore's writing is intelligent and witty without being smug (a problem with some Radio 4 comedies).
Have you listened to any of John Finnemore’s other performances? How does this one compare?
This is a good starting point from which to explore John Finnemore's work. The other series and Cabin Pressure are well worth a listen. I have found the quality to be consistently high throughout the various series.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Kept me smiling throughout. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments too.
Any additional comments?
I genuinely recommend this and encourage you to try the other series too - they are a real delight.

Very funny sketches, second to Cabin Pressure
Would you listen to John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme: The Complete Series 1 again? Why?
A great chuckle, just love his witty humour. Some of the sketches are a little short, and I think the structure of a longer narrative, as in Cabin Pressure, works better, but these are still extremely funny.
What did you like best about this story?
The dialogue is cracking. Loved "The Archers" for those who don't really watch the Archers"
Have you listened to any of John Finnemore’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Cabin Pressure - different character, same wit.

So very special in every special way...
If you could sum up John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme: The Complete Series 1 in three words, what would they be?
Marmite-flavored toothpaste
What did you like best about this story?
It is basically a consistently funny sketch show. If ever there were an elusive creation, that would be it: consistently funny sketch comedy. Almost every skit is right on target, hilarious, well-acted, and well-paced.
What does John Finnemore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His voice has the ability to make me instantly want to smile. It is reflexive at this point. The sound of his voice is irreversibly linked in my mind to happiness and laughter.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES! However, I love to simply relisten to favorite pieces as well--I can't refrain from sharing them with just about anybody I can get to listen (anyone who has needed a car ride from me in the last eight months is now very familiar with John Finnemore's comedy shows, both souvenir programme and cabin pressure)
Any additional comments?
Listen to it! It will be one of the best choices you could possibly make for your time.

More amusing the second time around
It's hard to find great comedy. John Finnemore's Cabin Pressure series set the bar very high, so comparing this collection of short sketches is tough. The Cabin Pressure series has an advantage of having characters that you get to know while the short sketches are all about a comedic idea being fleshed out, and then the next one, and the next.
This was the second time I listened to this, after re-listening to the Cabin Pressure series and wanting some more good comedy. This was not *as* good, but it was enjoyable. Not necessarily laugh-out-loud, but still amusing, quirky, and uplifting.
I listened again to Series 2, which was about the same level of amusing sketches, and then, I bought 3 and 4 which are combined in one audio book. Series 3&4 are funnier than Series 1 and Series 2.
John Finnemore has a great observational eye for human foibles and does very sharp comedic writing.
The voice actors are outstanding too. This was uplifting, and there were some good laugh-out-loud sketches in this one.

John Finnemore is a brilliant comedian, creator and performer of the acclaimed Cabin Pressure series, and John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme is a wonderful mix of sketches, which range from the witty to the silly, and are always endearing.
