About this listen

You're about to die. What would your final meal be?
This question has long troubled Jay Rayner. As a man more obsessed with his lunch than is strictly necessary, the idea of a showpiece last supper is a tantalising prospect. But wouldn't knowledge of your imminent demise ruin your appetite?
So, Jay decided to cheat death.
The plan was simple: he would embark on a journey through his life in food in pursuit of the meal to end all meals. It's a quest that takes him from necking oysters on the Louisiana shoreline to forking away the finest French pastries in Tokyo, and from his earliest memories of snails in garlic butter, through multiple pig-based banquets, to the unforgettable final meal itself.
My Last Supper is both a hugely entertaining account of a life built around mealtimes and a fascinating global exploration of our relationship with what we eat. It is the story of one hungry man, in eight courses.

Thoroughly enjoyed the book, it took a bit of getting into but then I was engrossed!

Interesting and quite touching.

For any fan of Jay Rayner's TV appearances, restaurant reviews, social media, I am, this a must, a treat especially with him reading it himself. He is a genuinely funny man, and it's like listening to an engrossing 'live' radio broadcast by him.
The story of his hunt for the ingredients for his 'Last Supper' is fleshed out with highly entertaining antidotes making it part memoir, part good food guide. At the end of each chapter on a chosen item there's a fav recipe of his plus a playlist giving insight into his love of the piano, music particularly jazz & how The Jay Rayner Quartet / Sextet came about, which sent me searching for the tracks, wanting to see him perform his 'show'.
Of his actual last supper choice, it was all very personal as it should be, with the his pork main course a surprise, real feel good fodder that makes him come across as an even more likeable character.

A Fun Foodie Feast!
