About this listen

The perfect Japanese course for travel in Japan. It is designed to help you ask for the things you’re most likely to need when visiting Japan and to give you the skills to cope with situations you might find yourself in.

The accompanying free booklet is also available to download at: collinsdictionary.com/resources.

It is different from other courses in that you also learn to understand the likely replies to your questions. You will hear key words and phrases used in dialogues between native speakers, so you learn not only how to say them but also how they are used in conversation.

Topics covered:

Unit 1: Greetings
Unit 2: Attracting attention
Unit 3: Nationalities
Unit 4: Occupations
Unit 5: Asking directions
Unit 6: Going places (1): where?
Unit 7: Going places (2): when?
Unit 8: Going places (3): how?

Perhaps I AM a simpleton but in a few weeks of repeated listening I’ve learned enough to serve me very well (currently in Okinawa and very grateful for this book)
The amount of repetition of key phrases with some variation seems to me about right
I do agree with the reviewer that it is a bit over simplified and perhaps condescending in places but frankly I enjoy being able to coast through revisions of the easy stuff between struggling with the more challenging sections
But hey I’m a scientist not a linguist (nor am I a simpleton) and in a month I’ve achieved a very useful grasp of basic Japanese
