About this listen

Jane is trying.

She's been trying for a baby, with increasing desperation as her 30s sail by.

Now, she's trying to make a new start back home with her overprotective, charades-obsessed parents—having left her career and cheating fiancé behind in London.

With an increasing load on her plate, friends and family who think she'll have a perfect life if she only listens to them, and a brain which questions every decision she's ever made, can Jane conquer her demons and step forward on her own?

I loved this book! Couldn’t stop listening. Such satisfying characters and the perfect ending. Please write another one Isy!

A lovely book with brilliant characters you will love

I could have easily stopped listening. The story didn't intrigue and the themes such as mental health etc were dealt with at a superficial level. The ending was poorly constructed, although matched the pace of the book. An easy read sat on a beach etc.

Slightly Disappointing

I loved the book, so funny it had me giggling in bed 🤣 but the introduction part I found was weak and uninteresting, to the point I almost gave up on it and returned.. I’m glad I didn’t though! Although I was kind of sad of how things worked out in the end. Obviously I can’t say without disappointing readers.

Great read.

Despite being a fan of Suttie's, including seeing her performing live and enjoying her previous book The Actual One, I wasn't sure about this at first. The characters, specifically Jane, felt a decade too immature than their actual age of 38 and the story felt a bit chick lit for my tastes. I found that, for a time, I was only listening for Suttie's narration and the odd good line. But, after a while, I was properly drawn in, wanting the best for Jane and sympathising with her situation. Funny, thoughtful and bittersweet, Suttie's got a good way with prose too.
