About this listen

Jane Eyre remains a classic of 19th-century English literature and is the most famous and influential novel by Charlotte Bronte.

Published in 1847, one of the most popular of all English novels, the story tells of the rise of a poor orphan girl against overwhelming odds. It is a work of fiction with memorable characters and vivid scenes exploring themes that have as much relevance today as in the time it was written.

British novelist Charlotte Bronte (1816 - 1855) was the eldest of the three famous Bronte sisters whose novels have become standards of English literature.

The best audio book I have heard in some time. The reader brings the book to life.

I like the story of Jayne Eyre so I am biased. The story is well told in a pleasing manner. I have enjoyed my time listening to the story and always marvel how much Charlotte Bronte packed into the pages. It was a bargain at the price. I highly recommend same.

Worth listening to again.

A perfect reading by a brilliant reader with the exact right voice. Although I have read the book half-a-dozen times, I have never felt the power of this great love-story so intensely as I did listening to this recording.

A perfect reading

Lucy Scott's reading is wonderful - genuine and heartfelt without ever being thespish or self-important. If Lucy records any more classics, I shall certainly be snapping them up!

I read this book as a teenager. Listening to this, brought back all the pleasure I felt then. I can thoroughly recommend this version. Beautifully and sensitively read, I ended up wishing the book was longer!
