Summary
Jane Eyre remains a classic of 19th-century English literature and is the most famous and influential novel by Charlotte Bronte.
Published in 1847, one of the most popular of all English novels, the story tells of the rise of a poor orphan girl against overwhelming odds. It is a work of fiction with memorable characters and vivid scenes exploring themes that have as much relevance today as in the time it was written.
British novelist Charlotte Bronte (1816 - 1855) was the eldest of the three famous Bronte sisters whose novels have become standards of English literature.

An enjoyable audiobook
I confess that I had never read this classic before, having perhaps been illogically put off by not liking "Wuthering Heights", and was expecting a rather heavy and overwrought experience, so it was a pleasant surprise that the book was so enjoyable. The characters of the two main protaganists - Rochester and Jane Eyre herself - are not at all as they are perhaps assumed based on film versions. Jane turns out to be feisty and independent-minded and Rochester warmly vulnerable. The story bowls along at a good pace, even though at times it gets bogged down a tad. Best of all is the narration which really brings the book alive.
I might give Wuthering Heights another chance!

wonderful
I'm not a huge Bronte fan but this reading is hugely entertaining, perfect match of reader to writer. Jane's trace of a northern accent is a lovely touch. Gets all the romance and pathos and intelligence and even squeezes some humour out of it. I can't imagine a better version, better than reading the book! A crazy bargain at under 5 pounds too.

Excellent
I read this book as a teenager. Listening to this, brought back all the pleasure I felt then. I can thoroughly recommend this version. Beautifully and sensitively read, I ended up wishing the book was longer!

The best value on the site
This is an incredible reading. The classic story itself is so vivid and original that it deserves to be hear from that respect, whilst on top the reader, Lucy Scott, gives one of the best, most adapted performances of any audiobook i?ve heard.

Loved, loved, loved!
Fabulous book. First time I have read this book. Have seen various adaptations so vaguely knew the story, yet how much more is in the book?! I now find all of the adaptations poor, because in the book you are being narrated to by Jane herself. There is so much feeling and emotion here which is totally missing in films, as she spends most of the time silent!
Back to the book. The narration is excellent, Lucy Scott could read the yellow pages or a bus timetable nicely. I can't get into the complexity of the story, but if you are already a Jane Eyre fan, you will love this audio version. If you have never read it, highly recommended.

Worth listening to again.
I like the story of Jayne Eyre so I am biased. The story is well told in a pleasing manner. I have enjoyed my time listening to the story and always marvel how much Charlotte Bronte packed into the pages. It was a bargain at the price. I highly recommend same.
