She dedicated her life to working for the justice system, but when she needed it most, it didn’t work for her.

On the eve of trial, Assistant District Attorney Lainey Abbott gets a disturbing phone call. Her baby sister, Stephanie, who should have been back at her college dorm after visiting for the weekend, never arrived. At first, she isn’t too worried, because she’s a system insider and has plenty of resources available to locate her sister quickly, including Russ Sanders, the police detective she’s been on and off with for years. It’ll take a couple days, tops. They’ll find Steph and give her a piece of their mind for being so irresponsible.

But a year later, Stephanie still hasn’t been found.

And what’s worse, the system Lainey once had so much faith in, no longer seems inclined to look. Reeling from the loss, her career and personal life are in freefall, and most days she can’t even bring herself to care.

Until another case surfaces, of a girl who’s gone missing under strikingly similar circumstances to Steph’s....

I have been in a rut with picking mystery audiobooks (I prefer mystery genres but I got sick of the audiobooks I was finding that I tried different genres and found that I'm serious not interested) that are boring, predictable and made me question why do I like this genre (also there's a lot of mystery books that claim they're mystery books but are ether (bad) romance with a side of mystery or they forget they're a mystery books and suddenly remember towards the end or the lack creative that you predict the who dunnit at the beginning of the story (also the 'twist'). Enough of my rant on the declining quality of mystery genre especially cosy mysteries but they reason I can't give it up is because now and then I come upon mystery audiobooks that I can't get enough of and when you find them it ignite my love for mysterys stories. I loved the journey the author took us, I loved the character development and also Nia Forrester is a talented writer and has definitely gained a fan. I enjoyed the first book so much that I instantly started the second one, I gave up my sleep but it was worth it. I hope the series continues.

I love the characters, plot and the fact that it is a MYSTERY book.
