Summary

The story of Captain Abrashoff and his command of USS Benfold has become legendary inside and outside the Navy. By governing his ship through his unique management techniques, Abrashoff turned the Benfold into a model of naval efficiency, with amazing cost savings, the highest gunnery score in the Pacific Fleet, and a highly motivated and top performing crew.

In It's Your Ship, he first demonstrated how to bring his successful management techniques from the ship to the boardroom. Now, in his newest book It's Your Ship - in the same rugged, can-do voice - Abrashoff will focus on the leadership, motivational, and management insights and tips that he has learned from his last six years of addressing business and corporate audiences.

Abrashoff's timely advice will be eminently prescriptive and will feature anecdotes and insights from leaders of businesses large and small and from public and non-profit sectors.

the book was fine, just want unabridged

I am not a fan of abridged audio books which is why I gave it 3 stars. the content is good but I am going to skin through the paper edition to see what I missed.

Great Book

I have his first book "It's Your Ship," and this updated version is better than that. I use these theories at my job in the fire department to help with my daily operation. Good job Captain Abrashoff and thanks for the help.

Good for leadership development

If you could sum up It's Our Ship in three words, what would they be?

leadership mistakes and successes

What was one of the most memorable moments of It's Our Ship?

The part where the author explained that since his last book, he learned that his title was not the best and thus set the mood for the rest of the book to expand on team work and communication.

Which scene was your favorite?

Every chapter of this book was interesting and informative.

Any additional comments?

I had to read this book for nursing school. I went into it thinking it would be just another leadership book but found it to be very different. I found myself realizing that the ideas expressed in this book were exactly what I found myself thinking about former supervisors/managers. He explains why certain leadership styles and techniques work versus those which clearly fail in the long wrong.

Go to Book for Leadership

I have listened to this book numerous times. It is a go to for me. The stories are great and the lessons of leadership are timeless. It's an easy read/listen. It's a top three leadership that I've ever read, and I've gone through a lot of them...
