Summary

The first book in 25 years from Jerry Seinfeld features his best work across five decades in comedy.

Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub Catch a Rising Star as a 21-year-old student in autumn of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. 'Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas - the big yellow legal pad - I kept it in one of those old-school accordion folders', Seinfeld states. 'So I have everything I thought was worth saving from 45 years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.'

For this book, Jerry Seinfeld has selected his favourite material, organised decade by decade.

Heard it all before

I'm a big Seinfeld fan but unfortunately if you've seen Jerry's comedy specials you've heard all of this before. Was disappointed there wasnt previously unheard material. I was also disappointed in the way he so nonchalantly read the material. He seemed almost bothered to be doing it.

This is NOT an autobiography

Unclear that this is a series of largely unfunny stand up lines. Anything but entertaining.

What’s the deal with ovaltine

It should be roundtine, right? Like, The tins round?

Fun, made me laugh out loud!

I was searching for a light, fun read and stumbled upon Jerry Seinfeld's book on Audible. I think this is a perfect format for this cause with a lot of the jokes delivery matters.

Now, I like Jerry Seinfeld and his humor a lot. I love it when he goes on rampages and pushes the joke further and further. This is what I was missing in the first half of the book. Each joke has a "headline" or a "name" which was a bit off-putting. I wish they would just let the man talk!

I also wasn't too impressed with how the jokes were divided. For example, if Jerry is talking about planes, I felt like it should be a long bit where he would deliver everything he has on the planes. Instead, jokes were divided into 20-30 seconds segments with the narrator stating the name of the joke in between, which interrupts the joke.

However, after getting used to this, and I think in the second half there were some longer jokes, I absolutely loved it. I laughed out loud multiple times.

I also enjoyed Jerry's intro into each decade. You can hear how his humor is evolving and his jokes becoming more and more current, which are the ones that made me laugh the most.

Very fun book, light, you'll get through it in no time. For me, after I pushed through the first hour and got used to the format, I thoroughly enjoyed it and laughed out loud!

maybe a better book than audio

this is a fun diversion but would maybe like more back story and not just the jokes.

joke collection

You should only read this if you are a die hard Jerry Seinfeld fan. This is the complete (?) collection of his lines from 45 years of standup in no particular order. If you remember his standup on the Seinfeld show, many of them will sound familiar. I didn't give it one star, because I liked the brief introduction.

This is something

I would have given this six stars but the narrated headings can be annoying. This is pure comedy gold from the master of his craft.

An easy listen

The format is a little formulaic, which jars at first and will make you think that the next few hours are going to be a slog. But once you allow this pattern to settle, it becomes an enjoyable easy listen that you can dip in and out of. The material is great and there's bound to be plenty of stuff here that makes you smile.

Great Audiobook

But it’s almost like Audible transcribed the audio using maligned artificial intelligence, which produced only phonetically correct chapter names.
