About this listen

The first book in twenty-five years from Jerry Seinfeld features his best work across five decades in comedy.

Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub Catch a Rising Star as a twenty-one-year-old student in autumn of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. 'Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas – the big yellow legal pad – I kept it in one of those old-school accordion folders,' Seinfeld writes. 'So I have everything I thought was worth saving from forty-five years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.'

For this book, Jerry Seinfeld has selected his favourite material, organised decade by decade. In page after hilarious page, one brilliantly crafted observation after another, readers will witness the evolution of one of the great comedians of our time and gain new insights into the thrilling but unforgiving art of writing stand-up comedy.©2020 Jerry Seinfeld (P)2020 Simon & Schuster, Inc.

I remember many of them being delivered on stage. Glad to have them on audible.

Still got it. It was what it was

I was searching for a light, fun read and stumbled upon Jerry Seinfeld's book on Audible. I think this is a perfect format for this cause with a lot of the jokes delivery matters.

Now, I like Jerry Seinfeld and his humor a lot. I love it when he goes on rampages and pushes the joke further and further. This is what I was missing in the first half of the book. Each joke has a "headline" or a "name" which was a bit off-putting. I wish they would just let the man talk!

I also wasn't too impressed with how the jokes were divided. For example, if Jerry is talking about planes, I felt like it should be a long bit where he would deliver everything he has on the planes. Instead, jokes were divided into 20-30 seconds segments with the narrator stating the name of the joke in between, which interrupts the joke.

However, after getting used to this, and I think in the second half there were some longer jokes, I absolutely loved it. I laughed out loud multiple times.

I also enjoyed Jerry's intro into each decade. You can hear how his humor is evolving and his jokes becoming more and more current, which are the ones that made me laugh the most.

Very fun book, light, you'll get through it in no time. For me, after I pushed through the first hour and got used to the format, I thoroughly enjoyed it and laughed out loud!

Fun, made me laugh out loud!

The format is a little formulaic, which jars at first and will make you think that the next few hours are going to be a slog. But once you allow this pattern to settle, it becomes an enjoyable easy listen that you can dip in and out of. The material is great and there's bound to be plenty of stuff here that makes you smile.

An easy listen
