Such an enjoyable listen, learned lots even as an Irish man - lots I must have skipped over in school!

It’s a book that gets more interesting as history gets more recent.

This is an unexpectedly comprehensive and informative book on the history of Ireland. I was apprehensive that the author is non native, but this allowed for a broad sweeping view which is neutral on the inevitably sensitive aspects of Irish history. The over-involvement of Britain in Ireland's affairs is explained without the heavy weight of moral implications being explored. There is no shortage of other books which cover those territories. Rather, the author presents the events and culture in a series of light brush strokes. Modern history, from 2010, is only touched upon. Again, this is better covered elsewhere. For me, the author has achieved the aim of an introduction suitable for anyone looking to get a bird's eye view of how modern Ireland has come into being.
I enjoyed the reader's interpretation of the text, which makes for easy listening.

A balance between an easy listen and informative history

The craic’s fierce and pure, sure, it’s mighty, but it’s a long, bloody history, lads.

Great for those times, lads

As someone of Irish descent I found this a fascinating book. Up until now my history had been limited to anecdote and patchy dates.

Excellent Summary
