The sequel we never knew we wanted! Very cleverly and respectfully done, and with a little of Rachel Parris’s wit and sense of humour interspersed, which actually I think Jane Austen would have appreciated! This book ties up all the loose ends of the characters we met a loved one Pride and Prejudice, although no mention of the Bingley sisters, but that’s no loss really!

The wonderful world created by Jane Austen is in safe hands with Rachel Paris.

I knew I would love this book but didn't expect to be moved to tears even for Mr. Collins. The insights into some possible origins of his odd habits are a good lesson in the need for compassion, even for very irritating people.

Of course Mrs. Collins is our heroine and very well expanded from the picture painted of her in Pride and Prejudice. So many modern attempts at stories set in this period ignore or play down the fundamental vulnerability of women to have their lives changed for better or worse at any moment by the whims, kindness, cruelty, death or simple distraction of the men in their families. Introducing Mrs. Collins boldly takes on this often grim reality without sacrificing the romantic sensibility most of us read Austen to indulge.

Finished in two days with few breaks and several tears.

I really enjoyed this story, a wonderful extension of Pride and Prejudice and so well written. I looked forward to the next few chapters every night as I tucked up under the duvet, enjoying every twist of the life of Mrs Collins. Each character was beautifully explored and the plot felt natural and credible. Miss Parris did an excellent job.
My only criticism and it is is a very important one, is that Miss Parris should really have handed the narration over to a professional actress. Unfortunately, she sounded like a very enthusiastic amateur dramatic person which did become irritating. She did not have the conviction or range ( which meant it was difficult to differentiate between characters) that would have improved the overall effect.
I have noticed that it is rarely a good thing for authors to be their own narrators and employing a professional narrator would nearly always be better.
