Summary

This book was written for the express purpose to examine one facet of the phenomenon known as intrapreneurship, which is how to become one. Much has been written on the benefits and hyper successes of intrapreneurial ideas that have come to the marketplace. We know for an example that the personal computer that we are using was the derivative of an intrapreneurial idea from an IBM employee. We also know that fostering a culture of entrepreneurship is a major priority for some of the world's leading companies.

Most of us are familiar with companies allowing anywhere from 10 to 20 percent of their employees' weekly time to be used to become creative and perhaps think outside the box. Often formalized systems are in place making it easy for these employees to submit their ideas. These systems are generally formalized procedures submitted to a prescreening committee and then move throughout the chain based on merit. Other organizations may conduct a one per year or twice a year hackathon system where groups are encouraged to work together to develop ideas and to present them to a committee to be voted on against other colleagues inside the organization.

Some authors have written about why you should become an intrapreneur, and the value it would be to your organization and your career. Still, others have written about the various characteristics and personality traits needed to successfully become an intrapreneur. There are books on various models that help determine the success of an idea and its viability.

Researchers have shown studies indicating the type of leadership needed to foster an intrapreneurial environment for success. However, no book until now has been focused on the making of an intrapreneur, not creating just the environment for growth but the actual skills needed and how to develop them in the individual.

This book goes beyond the superficial and explores the currently accepted identifiable skills than have been observed through peer-reviewed data. As an intrapreneur, one must adopt a life-long learning mindset with the understanding that what is known today is just the tip of the iceberg of knowledge to be discovered. I urge you to go forth and create new products and services to make our world a better place so that everyone is allowed to become everything they ought to be and no one is denied a chance at opportunity.

Being an intrapreneur is a natural progression of the human psyche. We as a species have a yearning to build and improve our environment, it's what we do. Humans went from darkness to light on demand, from caves to condominiums, traveling by foot to cruising on rockets. The pressing question becomes, do have the audacity to make your mark? Equipped with the skills you are about to learn I am confident you can. The ultimate question is, will you?
