Story
Fred awoke to find that a snake was watching him and that there was an aeroplane in the trees. It was on fire. Being on fire was a quality it shared with much of the surrounding jungle. After crashing hundreds of miles from civilisation in the Amazon rainforest, Fred, Con, Lila and Max are utterly alone and in grave danger. They have no food, no water and no chance of being rescued. But they are alive, and they have hope. As they negotiate the wild jungle, they begin to find signs that something - someone - has been there before them.

Story
There used to be an empty chair at the back of my class, but now a new boy called Ahmet is sitting in it. He's nine years old (just like me), but he's very strange. He never talks and never smiles and doesn't like sweets - not even lemon sherbets, which are my favourite! But the truth is, Ahmet really isn't very strange at all. He's a refugee who's run away from a war. A real one. With bombs and fires and bullies that hurt people. And the more I find out about him, the more I want to be his friend.

Then the most powerful witch in the world of Starfell turns up at Willow’s door and asks for her help. A whole day - last Tuesday to be precise - has gone missing. Completely. And, without it, the whole universe could unravel. Now Willow holds the fate of Starfell in her rather unremarkable hands. Can she save the day - by finding the lost one?

Story
A truly original debut novel from an extraordinarily talented new voice in children's books. Laugh, cry and wonder at this race-against-time story of a boy who travels back to 1984 to prevent a go-kart accident and save his father's life.... My dad died twice. Once when he was 39 and again four years later, when he was 12. The first time had nothing to do with me. The second time definitely did, but I would never even have been there if it hadn't been for his 'time machine'....

Beautiful, Emotionally Touching and Real
- By Victoria on 04-04-21
Summary
Short stories by Waterstones Children's Book Prize and Costa Children's Book Award-winner Katherine Rundell, inspired by Rudyard Kipling's classic The Jungle Book, and featuring all his best loved animal characters in this gorgeous audio edition, with a bespoke soundscape designed by Pinewood Studios.
Into the Jungle is a modern classic in the making, as Katherine Rundell creates charming and compelling origin stories for all Kipling's best known characters, from Baloo and Shere Khan to Kaa and Bagheera. As Mowgli travels through the Indian jungle, this brilliantly visual tale, which weaves each short story together into a wider whole, will make readers both laugh and cry.
Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, first published by Macmillan in 1894, is one of the most enduring books of children's literature, delighting generations of children. Katherine Rundell has taken this as the basis of her new and enchanting tale, sharing the early years of favourite characters and informing the creatures they become in Kipling's classic, with stories about family and friendship, loyalty and jungle law, and a final battle which will decide the future of the forest.
Critic reviews
"These beginnings resonate with echoes of Kipling’s original and Just So Stories. They are written with mischievous scatological jokes, lively action and characteristic precision and surprise, because, as Baloo says, language 'matters more than anything else'. The stories savour the profusion of the rainforest, as do Williams’s spectacularly lavish collages of engravings of animals and plants." (Sunday Times, children's book of the week)
"Witty, charming and steeped in the harsh truth of nature, this is an absolute must for all Jungle Book fans, young or old." (Daily Mail)
"The magnificent Rundell...takes on Rudyard Kipling with these inventive back stories for everyone from Shere Khan to Baloo." (Independent)
