Fascinating stories and excellent narration.

The stories in this audiobook are quite interesting. Given that one has to be at some level of understanding of the German language to follow the stories easily, it is well translated for extra comprehension. The idea is to help those transitioning from beginners to master things like pronunciation and fluency in German. Altogether, good book.

German stories are surprisingly nice.

What better way to learn a language than through stories? The passion, context and culture embedded in this book conveys exactly that point. It is a great concept to teaching the German language, especially to beginners. Also, the narrator is a native German speaker with a nice voice and accent. Listening to the narration helps the learner to properly practice the words they have learnt from the story or some other supplementary German learning material. Learning a word is important, but so is accent and pronunciation; this book offers all.

The authors of this book gifted me a free copy of this audiobook for my reference, and I have left this review as a result. This is unbiased review is meant to introduce potential listeners to the book and its relevance.

Great for conversational German

One of the distinguishing features of a typical intermediate language speaker is their conversational skills. Being at a basic proficiency with grammar, syntax and a bit of pronunciation is not enough; to achieve intermediate competence, fluency must be achieved at conversational level. This is what this book aims to achieve for its listeners as regards the German language. It presents well-organized stories that are paced at a conversational level. The sequence of stories have an increasing complexity about them, and this is great for consistent improvement in speaking and understanding the German language. Ultimately, practice is the key to mastery, but these stories will get the listener to the gate.

Another excellent book

I have reviewed a few short story language books by lingo mastery recently, and this is just another excellent one. I think the idea of learning via short stories is what I am most sold on, as it is easier for the learner to remember each lesson. Also, since this is for the intermediate learner, the context and vocabulary introduced are slightly more advanced. The idea is the same, listen continually and practice along with the stories. The goal is to ensure an improvement in pronunciation by mimicking the tone of the narrators, and to improve the listener's grasp on how certain words can be used in different contexts.

Useful and fun!

As a language enthusiast, I have had the pleasure of reviewing Lingo Mastery products in French, German, and Spanish. They are consistently good materials that help language learning if you use the PDFs that accompany the audio and do the work. That means you’ll have to read the PDFs and listen to the audio until you’re comfortable with everything, and along the way, you’ll pick up vocabulary for a variety of situations.

For this specific one in intermediate German, the stories are understandably longer. The vocabulary is expanded, but it doesn’t seem out of level for an intermediate learner. There is also less English in this, which is somewhat the point.

The narrator has a good voice for modeling German pronunciation. It’s my assertion that the language is not an ugly or angry sounding one at all, and this narrator is a good example of that. The nitpicky problems I had with him in the beginner level are not evident here. As a voice actor, he doesn’t read these stories with the same gusto and voice differentiation as a fiction narrator would, but he does try to make the characters sound different when he can.

In summary: This is a good and affordable tool that will help your German reading and listening if you do the work and use the tools provided.
