Summary

A left-leaning judge liberates four of the most dangerous al-Qaeda terrorists from Guantanamo Bay and the CIA field officers track them back to Pakistan's northwest frontier mountain range. But the men vanish and rejoin the dark and mysterious forces trained by Osama bin Laden high in the Hindu Kush. These are men with hatred for the United States and Great Britain, and they are sworn to hit back at the USA, which imprisoned so many of their high command. They know there is only one man who can stop them--retired Navy SEAL Lt. Commander Mack Bedford--and he is called in to assist on one of the most highly classified missions ever launched from CIA headquarters.

Enjoyable but plot holes

Enjoyable listen if you can suspend disbelief. There were a few big plot holes but otherwise good

I can’t decide if it’s the narration or the story

I listened to book one, which started slowly but improved as the book went on, so took a chance on books 2 & 3. I struggled through the first few hours of this book and gave up. Either the story or the narration, (I’m not sure which) renders these books terminally dull. What should be a great listen is actually really boring listening, and the dreadful accents really grate when the story doesn’t captures the imagination. The background parts of the storyline which should take no more than 10 -15 minutes seem to go on for hours, with no actual story or action taking place. I can’t recommend these books, unless you are looking for something to send you to sleep at night.

Great story

Great story
Getting to know the characters really well.
Maybe some reference to the last book would have been good

Good Action Brilliantly Delivered

Worth overlooking any dodgy Pakistani accent & right wing worshipping of the highest order 😂. Apart from these, Patrick Robinson as usual delivers another great story with good detail, & complex angles. The narrator was quite impassioned with a great delivery on some serious ass-kicking by Mac Bedford.

Feel free to give this a chance & not overthinking it

Way to political for a story...

I stuck with this for over three quarters of the book but finally had enough of the right wing conversations, the discrimination, the belittling of centre/left values and frankly the gungho attitude towards mass murder if you are doing it for revenge.

perseverance the name of the game

hoping I'll get 8nto 'Mac' Mackenzie Bradford. the c9nstant reminders of how he's idolised and how great her is a little tedious. luckily there's a good story hidden in there to balance it out. the author does have a good grasp of just how much liberals like ro fire up the apology bus at any possible opportunity.

I think Mac and I will get on.

Voice over a good choice and fits nicely.

definitely worth a listen.

Storyline sounds better than the actual book

The narrator whilst fine with American accents was laughable at some Pakistan and English accents.

The research behind some of the novel was poor, as they continually talked about Royal Navy site transport which there is no such thing.
Story was ok and kept me engaged but the issues listed detracted from the overall enjoyment.

Jingoistic & poorly narrated

I really tried to listen to this, feeling I ought to give it a chance BUT the jingoism was offensive & narration, particularly the West Yorkshire Police, was ridiculous.
