Summary

A city on the verge of collapse. Thousands dead or dying. One girl standing at the crossroads of fate.

Leaving behind bright ballroom lights for a blood-soaked battlefield, Jade is on her way to becoming the hero she never wanted to be. Through the portal, a city on fire beckons, besieged by a flood of monsters. In a race against time to protect what’s left, her only choice is to fight fae above her magic class and shine a light into the darkness.

As the smoke clears, Jade learns that the Dark One’s monsters weren’t the only thing she should be wary of. Something none of them were expecting slipped through the cracks. If dealing with nobles concerned more about pride than sense wasn’t bad enough, she’ll have to figure out how to handle the existences that could wipe a crumbling city from the map if she’s not careful: baby dragons.

Sometimes, the most dangerous problems fly in on tiny wings.

A Touch of a Good Series

this book continues a great series and I keenly await further books.

the series is moved on with this edition, while it progresses directly on from the last book it doesn't drag the previous scenario to exhaustion but brings in a potential new direction and maybe allies or maybe enemies I'm sure we will find out soon.

meh, book 4 was a step back.

the narrator and world building saved this one. there was very little of substance in this book, 75% of this book was stat re-reading, Jade day dreaming about meaningless things, or jade interacting with her bonded, if I had a dollar for everytime the words, "babies", "littles", "little ones", or "mommy" was said, I'd be rich. the cliffhanger from book 3 was honestly completely wasted and poorly written. there were a few good chapters mixed in between all the chirping at her bonded and "sending love" at her bonded. instead of embracing all the great things about the first 3 books and running with them, world building, characters, and magic systems, the author focused on the bonded. seriously, if you cut out scenes with any kind of focus or interaction with the butterfly's a solid half of the book would be gone. meh, just kinda disappointed. there wasn't a single tense action scene, Jade either dominated the enemy, or got dominated. think I'll still check out book 5 and hope things go in a better direction.

Jade is kind of a jerk now?? Or am i just realizin

Mild paraphrase from the book:
"Boys treat thier friends like foot balls, tossing them around. Girls treat thier friends like glass slippers afraid they will break"

Jade in this book and maybe in other. Treats all of her friends and all strangers terribly if they don't just do what she says. Her power goes into her head and all the way up her soul.

Brings a cloud of nightmare creatures to the city, and then when some one ask her to do something to help. She yells at them and vader style force chokes them. Any time some one contradicts her in this book she takes only yes ma'am as an answer.

People in her eyes can't make a single mistake. Anyone who a fronts her mildly gets auto black listed with no chance of talking to each other and compromising.

If anyone in this book treated her the way she treats everyone in this book she would have killed them on the spot. Truely Jade has no idea what the golden or platinum rules are. She doesn't treat people anywhere near how they would like to be treated, and she definitly doesn't treat people how she would like to be treated.

Really enjoy the story and the narrator makes it even better! I am conflicted because I want more books in this series but I also desperately want the Lotus Lake series too!! Please Jay keep up the great work!!

Feminist Wet Dream

I have enjoyed this series so far but this book was ridiculous. She goes on a whole bunch of random side adventures and acts super PMS'y for the entire book. Funny thing is she actually starts having periods in the book as well... which why? Men are also always super chauvinistic. The story doesn't progress much either.

overall loved this

the first three books felt like a couple of weeks past there was a lot of world building magic experimentation interpersonal experiences and growth of the characters in this book the main cast was almost entirely side lined now i get that was the point but i personally would have been happy to wait a couple more months for at least one or two days back in the main capital at the end of the book

it kind of feels like if in the previous book if it had been ended right after she got back from the hunt for the amount of information we as an audience received ya this was the first half where's the other half

again I love the series the progress just feels cut short this book
