About this listen

A stand-alone thriller from P. D. James.
Philippa Palfrey, adopted as a child, believes herself to be the motherless, illegitimate daughter of an aristocratic father. At eighteen she exercises her right to find out the truth. What she discovers will change her life forever. Philippa enters a new and terrifying world and soon comes to realize that she is not the only one interested in her parents' whereabouts.
Innocent Blood is both a mystery and a thriller, a superb novel that explores the themes of self-identity and the meaning of life.

Main story 4/5 Epilogue -3/5

This has a good idea, a young adopted woman goes looking for her birth mother and discovers that the past was not how she remembered it. The main story is solid al bit it very very slow paced but I found it hard to connect with the characters and empathise with their situation but I stuck it out.

Sadly something happens in the epilogue which I found unnecessary, it added nothing to the story and made me dislike the characters even more, it turned my stomach. Yes it's just a story but this was too far for me and that's after a story with a shocking horrifying set up, which was why I rate the end of the book minus 3. It's put me off reading more P.D James.

Nearly gave up with 2 hours to go but glad I didn't as the twist at the end was masterful

Suspenseful
