About this listen

Beginnings, middles and ends; Peggy, Serena, Natasha and Bel. This is the room that binds them, this is how consequences work...

In deepest Cornwall, the mansion Kittiwake has seen many pass through its doors since it was bought by American heiress Peggy Carmichael seventy years ago.

Over the decades, the keys have been handed down through the family, and now it belongs to Bel's adoptive brother, Lance. It's where he'll be celebrating his fiftieth birthday, and Bel is invited.

But Bel barely feels like she's holding it together as it is, and in going back to Kittiwake, she will be returning to the place where it all began - where, following the death of a child, a sequence of events was set in motion, the consequences of which are still rippling down through the generations...

From Sunday Times bestselling author Jenny Eclair comes an utterly compelling novel of family secrets that will stay with you long after it's finished.

I loved this book from start to finish. the plot is moving, intriguing, and very funny. I loved the characters and it was a nostalgic look back for me as I grew up in the 60's 70's. it's a richly woven story beautifully narrated by Jenny herself. I was completely thrown by the ending. Did not see it coming at all. I highly recommend this wonderful book.

a wonderful story

I am a huge fan of Jenny Eclair and read and re-read all her books many times over. This novel is exceptional with some truly terrible people whose selfish wickedness takes one's breath away. There are the sad characters and the pathetic, the the desperate and the kind souls who try to pick up the pieces, for the lost and the broken-a right old assortment!
Jenny's writing always leaves me breathless with her sharp observations and wry humour.
Laughter and tears and a little thrill of recognition at some of the cameos.
I don't know how Jenny does it but for me each new book is better than the last!

Totally brilliant!

I downloaded this audio book after listening to Jenny Eclair talking about it last weekend on the Graham Norton show. I was currently in the midst of flu and a severe bout of bronchitis so listening to an audio book really helped me to rest and take my mind off things. A very enjoyable read. I now can’t wait to try others by Jenny.

Just the Tonic

I have recently decided that my favourite audio listens tend to be those read by their authors, and this book fits that category perfectly!

Inheritance is a book cantered around a holiday home bought by the wealthy Peggy Carmichael some seventy years ago. But, Kittiwake, was soon the scene of a terrible tragedy and the family left. As the reader though we hop back and forth seeing the next generation, and the one after that through the author's sharp observational eye.

The story was great and the characters, inspired. Admittedly there aren't many that you'd wish to spend too much time with but they easily discernible and fully formed which in my mind is far more important. The plotting is meticulous and revelations perfectly timed.

I can see the ending may not suit everyone, but I loved it, especially the epilogue.

Well worth a listen.

An entertaining story!
