About this listen

The New York Times Best-seller: Outgunned and outmanned on the Pacific Ocean, a small American fleet defied the odds and turned the tide of World War II.

On the morning of June 4, 1942, doom sailed on Midway. Hoping to put itself within striking distance of Hawaii and California, the Japanese navy planned an ambush that would obliterate the remnants of the American Pacific fleet. On paper, the Americans had no chance of winning. They had fewer ships, slower fighters, and almost no battle experience. But because their codebreakers knew what was coming, the American navy was able to prepare an ambush of its own.

Over two days of savage battle, American sailors and pilots broke the spine of the Japanese war machine. The United States prevailed against momentous odds; never again did Japan advance. In stunning detail, Walter Lord, the number one New York Times best-selling author of Day of Infamy and A Night to Remember, tells the story of one of the greatest upsets in naval history.

The story of how the US beat the Japanese at the battle of Midway is such a great one and this book tells it incredibly well what we owe the forces of the US Navy and the others of the allied forces in the war is a debt we will never be able to repay

Incredible story about incredibly brave men

A fascinating tale which illustrates the difficulty of fighting an enemy when you have limited intelligence (the US) or too little (Japan). Mostly told in chronological order, with narrative from both sides, and experiences from across the ranks. The narrator coped well with the Japanese names, but I found his speech a little slurred.

Detailed account told from both sides

interesting and easy to follow how the midway was won. The narrator was very good.

Informative....

really enjoyed this, not a blow by blow analysis of every detail, but a very clever weaving together of what seems to be lots of first hand accounts

clever, entertaining read

The narration makes this potentially interesting book unlistenable. I would give this a wide berth if I were you

narrator is awful
