Summary
Before Mark's senior year at a prestigious private high school, his family moves to a small town in rural South Carolina. Haunted by a history of sporadic "behavior disorder," Mark's future hangs by a thread. In Jonesville, Mark must choose between trying to fit into a culture he despises or befriending another outsider- an Indian teacher who left Connecticut to remedy his wife's chronic illness. What unfolds is a series of discussions, reflections, and romances that force him to forsake sarcasm for sincerity but at a cost he never imagined.
