As a Glaswegian I can say how well the narrator reflects the dialect of Para Handy and his shipmates, which is not often the case with the Scots language!
The stories are subtle and slyly amusing, the main characters the crew of the Clyde coal boat the “Vital Spark” - a little group of “gentlemen” whose hierarchy is often the subject of the humour.
The setting is a Scotland long gone with social attitudes long forgotten, but still well worth a visit.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book and it’s one which can be listened to over and over.

Beautiful insight into a Scotland now long gone!
