Story
For film projectionist Nick, love should mirror what he sees on the big screen. And when he falls for Ellie on the eve of the 2008 presidential election, it finally does. For four blissful years, Nick loved Ellie as much as he loved his job splicing film reels together in the local cinema. Life seemed...picture-perfect. But now it's 2012, Ellie has moved out and Nick's trying to figure out where it all went wrong.

Story
Digging deep into her strengths, her failures, and her losses, Jann Arden brings us an inspiring account of how she has surprised herself, in her 50s, by at last becoming completely her own person. Like many women, it took Jann a long time to realize that trying to be pleasing and likeable and beautiful in the eyes of others was a loser's game. Letting it rip, and damning the consequences, is not only liberating, it's a hell of a lot of fun: "Being the age I am - that so many women are - is just the best time of my life."

Story
A wonderfully written account of a father's relationship with his troubled son, as told through his funny, tender letters. In 2007 Michael Maitland left home for university, and in the years that followed he developed depression, OCD and, almost fatally, anorexia. It was only when Michael was taken to hospital in 2012, his body shutting down and his organs failing, that the family realised exactly what was happening.

Story
Over the course of human history, there have been countless tomes composed on the subject of mental health and an equally daunting number on the joys and perils of raising children. If you factor in the mysterious nature of twins and the long-term ramifications of being raised in a cult, however, then it’s basically this one and Harry Potter. If it helps, our story is shorter and contains fewer owls. Bisection is the story of one man, two children, and bipolar disorder.

Written with her trademark deadpan humour, Urzila's memoir is full of great stories about both the big things in life and the little things. Urzila's accidental beginning in stand-up has led to an incredibly successful career in comedy, with regular gigs on television as well as sell-out shows in comedy festivals across New Zealand and Australia. But life hasn't always been a bundle of laughs. Urzila talks candidly about her childhood with a great family, apart from her abusive dad, and about growing up in South Africa.

Story
Suicide is the single biggest killer of men aged 20-45 in the UK. Depression and undiagnosed mental illness are huge contributors to these deaths, as they're often more difficult to diagnose in men. And those men don't tend to talk about the typical symptoms or visit their doctors. Meet Tim. For nearly a decade, he kept his depression secret; it made him feel so weak and shameful, he thought it would destroy his whole life if anyone found out. And Tim is not alone.

Story
During the first 30 years of her life, comedy script writer Sara Gibbs had been labelled a lot of things - a cry baby, a scaredy cat, a spoiled brat, a weirdo, a show off - but more than anything else, she'd been called a Drama Queen. No one understood her behaviour, her meltdowns or her intense emotions. She felt like everyone else knew a social secret that she hadn't been let in on, as if life was a party she hadn't been invited to. Why was everything so damn hard?

Story
In Talking It Over, Gillian and Stuart were married until Oliver - witty, feckless Oliver - stole her away. In Love, etc, Julian Barnes revisits Stuart, Gillian, and Oliver, using the same intimate technique of allowing the characters to speak directly to the listener, to whisper their secrets, to argue for their version of the truth… Love, etc is a compelling exploration of contemporary love and its betrayals.

Story
Miranda Sawyer's midlife crisis began when she was 44. It wasn't a traditional one. She didn't run off with a Pilates teacher or blow thousands on a trip to find herself. From the outside, all remained the same. Work, kids, marriage, mortgage, blah. Days, weeks and months whizzed past as she struggled with feeling - knowing - that she was over halfway through her life. It seemed only yesterday that she was 29, out and about. Out of Time is not a self-help audiobook. It's an exploration of this sudden crisis, this jolt.

So it’s not just me then

Summary
The memoir of an author living with depression.
Let me take you on a journey - a journey where you can hear my pain. Learn about all the techniques I've tried when dealing with my bouts of depression and self-hatred. Some techniques are actively encouraged by professionals across the world; other techniques (prostitutes, drugs, self-harm) are pretty much frowned upon. The spoilsports. What worked for me and what most certainly didn't! Told with the blackest of humor to keep things fun!
