About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A girl covered in blood. Her missing stepfather. Two detectives racing against time.

Laura is her team's top interviewer, an expert at finding the 'in' with victims that helps crack the case.

Niamh is her straight-talking partner who is noticing cracks in her mentor's careful facade.

Jenny is the 14-year-old assault victim found bloody and confused on a suburban street. They need answers, and fast. But Jenny seems terrified to tell them the truth.

And as the pair try to reach her, Laura begins to lose herself in memories of her own shattering trauma, leading to a mistake that could have fatal consequences...

Loved the characters, the suspense: what a thriller! The actress who read Jenny’s part was soooo good. Would highly recommend (even though the subject matter is very dark and difficult: you cannot look away!)

This is hands down the best book I have ever listened to!

From the very first chapter, I was completely gripped and couldn’t stop listening.
The Narration: The narrators are absolutely phenomenal! They brought Detective Laura Shaw, young Jenny, and Detective Niamh to life with such incredible skill and emotional depth. Every character had a distinct, authentic voice that made me feel like I was right there in the interview room. The way they handled the sensitive subject matter with such nuance and power was extraordinary.

The Story: What a masterpiece of psychological crime writing! Gill Perdue has crafted something truly special here. The psychological depth, the way trauma and healing are explored, the complex relationship between Laura and Jenny is all brilliantly woven together. I was on the edge of my seat throughout, desperately wanting to know what happened while also dreading the revelations.
Overall: I’m genuinely shocked this incredible audiobook doesn’t have more reviews yet! This deserves to be discovered by so many more listeners. It’s an emotional powerhouse that will stay with you long after the final chapter. The performance elevates what’s already exceptional writing into something truly unforgettable.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers, Irish crime fiction, or just want to experience outstanding audiobook narration, don’t hesitate! This is a must listen!

Absolutely Phenomenal! Best Audiobook I’ve Ever Experienced!
