About this listen

The one obituary you never want to read - is your own.

Laura Swallow is dead. A life cut tragically short, says the newspaper obituary. But that's a lie.

Estate agent Laura did not die in a car accident. She is alive and well. At first, Laura thinks it's a sick joke. But multiple announcements of her death are followed by increasingly sinister real-life events.

Already fragile, struggling to recover from a recent divorce, Laura is plunged into a living nightmare. Who can she trust? Her new lover? Her clients and work colleagues? What about her ex-husband and his smug fiancee? Can Laura even rely on her best friends?

And why is it that Laura's present troubles are so tied up with her sister's sudden death all those years ago? But one thing Laura is sure of - someone out there wants her to suffer. Wants her gone.

Forever.

Okay, so it’s very clear who the psycho is from the very beginning of the story the author never comes right out and tells you until the very end but you’d have to be Helen Keller or Stevie Wonder not to see that Anna has some deep issues. I think the only person who was fooled is Laura and her inability to see what is right in front of her is really annoying.

I think it’s interesting about the author is telling a story that could be interesting, but not all of our protagonist are beautiful, slim and highly desirable women, but Laura is really annoying.

Overall, this is just an OK listen, I fast forwarded past a lot of parts, Just because I was tired of Laura moaning. It could’ve been a really good story but it did keep me busted. I don’t know maybe I was desperate for a long audiobook to really sync my teeth in so I kept persevering with this one. I wouldn’t not recommended after all, it is in the plus category.

By the end, I wanted to kill Laura myself🤭

Before I get into the good stuff I do want to highlight something. I wasn’t impressed that a part in this book jumped straight to the conclusion of SA, as a female I do know if I was to wake up half dressed and not remember getting home ect I would worry but would i jump straight into the narrative of being abused and then tell everyone that, no I wouldn’t. It’s not what we do as females, we don’t jump straight to being abused we either know we have been or we check the facts if we are unsure. Even in the book she goes to the doctor and they confirm she wasn’t but she still continues with that narrative, I couldn’t really let it go through out the book it did weigh heavy and was poorly done.

That being said, the book does have a good story line, you kind of know pretty much from the start who’s behind everything and can guess what’s happening but you still find yourself wanting to know what’s next.

I enjoyed the plot other than the above & would listen to more by this author

A good story line with twists

I liked the story even if at times I was like.. obviously it’s Anna and thought the main character needed shaking 😅

Great story line!

The main character is flat out UNINTELLIGENT, she makes the craziest assumptions and accusations and ppl around her just accept it. So annoying. Or, when she’s not at fault, they blame her in the most ridiculous way. No big surprises, reader guesses the villain immediately. It’s meh. Not terrible, just half decent. But it’s free so I listened to the end.

Annoying main character

Bit predictable, but I enjoyed it. Worth a listen for free. Narration was really good and that makes all the difference!

Great Narration! Easy listen for free.
