If this audiobook were shampoo, "repeat" would be necessary. Dennis Miller - the only Saturday Night Live Weekend Update anchor as far as I am concerned - is at his prime in his latest collection of rants. But I was laughing so hard during my first listen that I had to repeat to get those parts I missed. My favorite bits include: "Talk-Shows" (They answer the burning question: what do people you see being arrested on Cops do during the day?); "Pets" (If you have more than 20 cats in your house, remember that each and every one of them has nine lives and you have none.); and "Buying a Home" (Charming means small. Cute means small. Quaint means old and small. Airy, spacious, and big means small.) Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. (Teresa C.)

Summary

Once again there's good news for those of us who rage at the evening news, shake our heads at Washington's business-as-usual, or watch as politicians carom helplessly between political crises and sex scandals: Dennis Miller is back performing his fourth installment of hilarious observations, I Rant, Therefore I Am. Dennis Miller first gained national acclaim as the wise-guy anchor of "Weekend Update" on Saturday Night Live. When HBO premiered his weekly talk show in April 1994, both critics and fans enthusiastically agreed: Dennis Miller Live was the most refreshing talk show on television.
The accolades have continued to pour in. In 1999 Ranting Again won the Audie Award for Humor and in 1997 The Rants was nominated for the "Best Spoken Word" Grammy Award in addition to being voted a USA Today Best Bet. When he takes the stage, the audience demands, "The rants, the rants, the rants," and once again, Dennis Miller delivers the goods. Fans of his smart, quirky, irreverent sense of humor are in for another treat - this set of rants is even funnier than the last three rounds.

I rant, Therefor I Am

Although the content is fairly witty, the book is read in a completely unengaging way. I kept thinking it would be a funny book to read, but listening to it was at times painful. The tone is flat but not deadpan; it is clear the material is being READ, not performed (which a comedy book must be in order to be effective). I thought it was a waste of money

Too many rants...

I was a regular watcher of Dennis' show over the years and came to look forward to his rants. For me, however, it's different listening to them back-to-back-to-back. For the most part, each rant is funny. Several taken collectively during a commute is just too much. I got bored listening to them.

Miller's act is as thin as his hair

Dennis Miller has lost touch and this book must been the beginning of his downfall. Its simply not funny. I was hoping for a couple of laughs and got maybe 3; I was looking for insights and got none. Don't waste your time. There's a reason he's not on TV anymore; he has nothing original to say.

For sophisticated tastes only

Not everyone likes Dennis Miller, but then again not everybody understands much of what comes out of his mouth, as if you need a Masters Degree in arcane literature. For example, he makes reference to "Fitzcuraldo the boat over the mountain" (spelling?). Nevertheless, his piercing wit is sidesplitting and the rants are especially so because these are the creme of his loquatious crop. Buy it, you'll like it.

Cleverly funny

Funny, clever and witty, though at times Miller could be a little too witty for his own good. Even still, I enjoyed this listen, Miller does a great job in narrating his own material, making it just like one of his stand-up gigs, and overall, if you're a fan of comedy then this would audio book would be perfect for you.

A good laugh - smart stuff

I enjoyed this. A little obsessed with Bill Gates for some reason. "F" bombs sometimes seem unnecessary and out of place

The schtick has worn thin

Miller, the "smart" comedian who alludes, to the astonishment of another reviewer, to Werner Herzog, appeals to the same self-satisfied Thinking People who gather by his friend and fellow NFL commentator Rush Limbaugh's side. At least Miller has stopped trying to make his rants seem unpolitical--two stars for honesty.

BRILLIANT - FUNNY - FABULOUS!

This is a must hear! You'll love Miller's insight - no matter which side of the political isle you're on. Get it, listen to it and laugh!

Original

Dennis Miller has always tickled my funny bone. Regardless if you agree with his political or social positions, you have to laugh at the way he presents his unique brand of sarcasm. Some people simply don't get his humor, but he is truly one of the sarcasm comedy masters of our time.

sad, sophmoric, self serving

unless you like to hear a comic telling bad jokes and then laughing at them--since nobody else does--don't bother.
