As those who have read Othello know, Iago is by far one of the most interesting characters, both in the play and in Shakespeare's work generally. His motivation remains unclear, and is hotly debated by academics. This book explores his past, including his relationship with Roderigo as a child. We learn why he has the moniker 'honest Iago'. His motivations become clear and all seem perfectly believable in the context of facts in the play. We hit the middle of the book where the play picks up, but all from Iago's perspective. It's really well done and is a good retelling of the play itself in modern English.
