Summary

When college student Jake is left for dead on the side of the road, he has one thing on his mind: Learn to defend himself against the men that gay-bashed him.

And fight back or die trying.

At his sister's suggestion, he tries self-defense courses. Little does he know when he asks the man to teach him, he'll be guarding more than his body, he'll be guarding his heart.

Aspiring MMA trainer Benjamin is on his last leg, literally. As a wounded warrior, he's scarred from a broken heart that has nearly broken his spirit.

So when Jake approaches him for lessons and tells him his story, it touches his heart.

The more time Jake and Benjamin spend together, the more they realize they're becoming best friends.

The more time they spend together, the more they realize they can't live without each other.

The more time they spend together, the more they realize they're falling in love.

But Jake has a secret, one that could change everything....

They're step-brothers.

-ugh-

Any additional comments?

This is the thing, the main character is in college and the narrator sounded like he was in his 60's.

So, the narration turned from mediocre to awful when he'd tried to sound young and a lot of the dialogue was a young guy speaking; a voice that sounds like an elderly speaking the dialogue of a young guy just ruined the story. 💔 And the sexy scenes definitely didn't work AT FREAKIN ALL!

A younger narrator like Michael Stellman or Michael F. Would have raised the level of entertainment for this story.

BDSM (Dom/sub) Indecision and Sex and more Sex

It takes the main characters over 7 hours of narration to make a decision meanwhile still not knowing if they belong together there is chapter after chapter of highly erotic sex. If you like all sex an no story I Got You is the book for you.

Horrible

For the first time in my life I find myself wanting my money and my time back. Narrative was awful. Story sounded like a bad litteral translation. I can't find decent negative superlatives strong enough to describe this pile of words.

One of the worst books I've read dnf

The horrible story was made even worse by the terrible narration. I couldn't finish which is rare even for terrible books.

Nothing to keep me reading

DNF as I was well into Chapter 5 and nothing had sucked me in yet. The first few chapters of any book are very important and there is no depth in the characters.
The narrator is not a fit for this book. Maybe horror or westerns but not gay romance.
Don't waste a credit.

primal attraction and real manhood

good story. though the voices sounded exaggerated and silly at times. the romance touched on primal attraction respect trust and the effects of childhood upbringing on all those things as well as real manhood.

A steamy book

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way that Jake learns how to protect himself, and also how to accept himself.

erraric and confusing at times

there were times that i felt i missed something and had to return to the previous chapter. example after the beach scene, jake kept referring to Benjamin as a straight guy. i feel fairly certain that if a guy just had his hand amongst other things in certain orifices, he's less than straight. sometimes the pov was confusing as well. all in all, the level of devotion Benjamin displayed was enjoyable. it would have been nice to see the sister & baby mama be put in their place. the narration was ok. it just had the feel of older characters not college or young 20 somethings, so it threw things off.

This is a hard one to review...

The storyline is fantastic. The D/s stuff is done in a very creepy way, though. the way that they keep harping on the familial connection is super weird and icky, too. The performance of Jake and all of the minor characters is decent. The performance of Benjamin is very, very awkward. It's done in the voice of what can only be described as a dirty old man. The pace of the performance in general (all characters) is way too fast, and the lack of normal pauses makes for a difficult listen. I couldn't tell if this was just really bad editing for time, though, or the performer.

There were so many places in the story where I almost couldn't even continue, and I strongly considered returning the book. The storyline itself saved the day, though. It's different and very good. This is most definitely one that I wish that I had read instead of listening to, though.

Oh, one last thing - in the beginning, there are some plot inaccuracies that are very jarring. Don't bother trying to listen back to see what you've missed. You haven't missed anything. The story itself seems to have been edited very poorly at some point, and doesn't stay on track. Thankfully, that doesn't keep happening throughout the book.

Terrible Narrator

The story was good. The narrator does terrible voices and has weird inflections that pull you out of the story.
