I wish I read this before I gave birth
- By Anonymous User on 14-04-19
Summary
HypnoBirthing has gained momentum around the globe as a positive and empowering method of childbirth. Here's why: HypnoBirthing helps women to become empowered by developing an awareness of the instinctive birthing capability of their bodies. It greatly reduces the pain of labor and childbirth; frequently eliminates the need for drugs; reduces the need for caesarian surgery or other doctor-controlled birth interventions; and it also shortens birthing and recovery time, allowing for better and earlier bonding with the baby, which has been proven to be vital to the mother-child bond. What's more, parents report their infants sleep better and feed more easily when they haven't experienced birth trauma.
HypnoBirthing founder Marie Mongan knows from her own four births that it is not necessary for childbirth to be a terribly painful experience. In this audiobook, she shows women how the Mongan Method works and how parents can take control of the greatest and most important event of their lives.
So, why is birth such a traumatic event for so many women? And why do more than 40 percent of births now end in caesarian section, the highest percentage in history? The answer is simple: because our culture teaches women to fear birth as a painful and unsettling experience. Fear causes three physical reactions in the body - tightening of the muscles, reduced blood flow to the birthing muscles, and the release of certain hormones - which increase the pain and discomfort of childbirth. This is not hocus-pocus - this is science.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Disappointed in the structure of the book
I had such high hopes for this book. I am currently in my third trimester and have been actively seeking hypnobirthing education since mid-second trimester. Unfortunately, I live in an area where there are no current hypnobirthing educators or classes. I hoped to glean as much information from this book as I possibly could, but instead found that the book spends a disproportionate amount of time trying to sell you on the idea of hypnobirthing, instead of giving information to put this philosophy into action. As some other reviewers have said, I already bought the book. I'm already sold on the idea. There's no need to spend at least a quarter of the book trying to sell me on it. I was also disappointed to find that with the few actual techniques the book did share, they gave only an abbreviated overview and indicated hypnobirthing educators and classes will fill in the specifics. As I mentioned before, I have no immediate access to an educator in my area, which renders much of this book useless to me. My advice for any prospective readers: make sure you are taking a hypnobirthing class in conjunction with reading this book or at the very least, you have access to a hypnobirthing educator in your area. If neither of the aforementioned options apply to you, I would unfortunately recommend skipping this book.

good for info on the practice
I'm a little frustrated with this audible book. It's got lots of good info on hypnobirthing but no real way to help me DO the practice! When you buy the physical book, you get a CD with meditations on it. That's what I need. This cost the same and no meditations! Plus I can't see a table of contents and none of the chapters are labeled so I have no idea what's next or where anything in the book is. I love hypnobirthing but am very disappointed in this Audible book. At least give me the rainbow meditation!

Waste of time and money
I wanted to listen to this book to learn some hypnobirthing techniques which I could incorporate into my birthing plan, but unfortunately only a few techniques were discussed. Actually the first few hours of this book is purely self promotion for the author which is super unhelpful to someone trying to learn about hypobirthing. All of the evidence was purely anecdotal and no evidence was pulled from randomized controlled trials. Most of the claims made in this book have been disproven by randomized controlled trials. For instance, the book states point blank that breast-fed babies have higher IQs, so you should breast-feed your baby. I agree that breast-feeding has many benefits, but when you compare one breast-fed sibling to another formula fed sibling who share the same mom, the effects on IQ are insignificant. If you want to be lectured on how a “medication free birth” is the only path to a “normal birth” and how your “child’s soul will be affected if you receive medication”, then I would recommend this book to you.
