Summary

Entering Blackburn Academy was supposed to be a dream come true. Instead, I’m trapped in a nightmare. A group known as The Elites rule the campus with fear and cruelty. They kill vampires for sport. Worst of all...they think I’m one of them.

Only my boyfriend, Justin, knows my deadly truth and he’s suddenly gone missing. The only person who I can turn to for help is Mitch Holter, my Elite bodyguard and the biggest bully at Blackburn.

I had no way of knowing the dark and sinister nature of the Academy’s secret traditions. Now, my only goal is to survive the night.

A smooth rush

January experienced more than emotions, loss and chaos, but it only strengthened her in the end. I enjoyed book two and looking forward to book 3

WOW!!

The wonderful writing combined with the brilliantly enchanting narration bring this amazing book to life. This is an addictive series, this book had me hooked from the start. The story is a real rollercoaster full of intrigue, twists and turns and wonderful complex character relationships. What an amazing cliff hanger, I cannot wait to see what happens next to January and her friends.

I am obsessed with this series!

The second installment in this series did not disappoint. January's journey through academy life is nothing like she thought it would be. There is never a dull moment in this book between Mitch playing the role of overbearing bodyguard and trying to unravel the Hawthorn Group's secrets when Justin goes missing. I can't wait for the next installment!

Exciting sequel in the Broken Elites series

“You chose the wrong side and I’m not powerful enough to protect you from what’s coming.” - Dante Mortis January has reluctantly accepted her scholarship at Blackthorn Academy and become a member of the Hawthorn Group. In return for protection for her Mother and Nana from further vampire onslaught, she must keep her dhampir status a secret from her friends and submit to tests and gruelling training under the owner of the Hawthorn Group, Sebastian Holt. January soon uncovers corruption at the heart of the Hawthorn Group and by extension, the Blackburn Academy. Increasingly distrustful of Sebastian’s motives and shadowed by his cousin Mitch who seems to despise her, January finds herself between a rock and a hard place. With the attacks on her life becoming more frequent by vampires determined to kill her, January is unprepared when Justin, who had been investigating the mysterious deaths of soldiers who were Alphastrains, suddenly goes missing. Blackmailed into participating in the Senior Hunt in which she is required to kill a vampire for sport, January must place her trust in Mitch as her second. But can he be trusted? Hunter Trials is the second compelling instalment of what is turning out to be a thoroughly entertaining series. This was a tense, fast paced, exhilarating read which had me anxiously turning the pages. Once again I felt that the characters showed real depth and substance. Lucas, Zach, Susie, Mia and Richard were as protective and supportive as ever. It was interesting to see the relationship between January and Mitch unfold. While initially they were antagonistic towards each other, they came to develop a sense of mutual respect. Mitch is an interesting character and I look forward to further exploring his back story. Despite this being only the second book, I can’t help feeling emotionally invested in the characters which is a testament of the authors characterisation skills. I genuinely welled up at the scene where January and her father came face to face at the Senior Hunt. Sebastian Holt was a particularly nasty villain. At first it was hard to ascertain what it was that he wanted from January. Despite knowing that his motives wouldn’t bode well for her, when his agenda was finally revealed, I felt a sense of outrage. All in all this was a well executed, gripping instalment with a deeply unnerving teaser at the end which has ensured that this reader will be eagerly anticipating the follow up, Broken Elites. I received an advanced audible copy of Hunter Trials and I am voluntarily reviewing it. Rebekah Nemethy has masterfully brought the characters to life with her clear concise delivery which made it easy to differentiate between characters.

Another couldnt stop listening

Hunter Trials by Rita Strandling is the second book in this series. Rebekah Nemethy is the narrator. This is also the second book by this narrator that I have heard and she does an AMAZING job. Each character has their own voice, personality and it all comes through the talent of this narrator. Ms Strandling did a great job choosing her to bring her stories to life. Now the story, January, the FMC is now at the academy. Thankfully she gets to bring her dog Bailey, who also just happens to love Justin, the MMC. Bailey, for the second time gets to save the day, or night in this case, and the entire Dormitory of students. However her troubles haven't ceased and now she is being blackmailed by the man who gave her the scholarship in the first place. We get to see the side characters more involved and yes we have the typical emotional happenings in the teen years, But by the end and the stand the students take we come to love the true and natural leaders young adults can become. Poor Mitch though, I feel for him and what he has had to endure through his life and the ending of course leaves you wanting for more. Which I will happily wait for. I highly recommend this book and the author and narrator. They did and AMAZING job.

Sequel falls down.

The good: The reader was good. I enjoyed the first book and was excited to see what followed. The bad: The main villain one dimensional. The main character doesn’t have any agency in the narrative. She is restrained by the villains and progress in the plot is carried out by others.

So good you don’t miss the steam

I usually prefer more steam but I didn’t miss it much at all. As an RH goes you kinda have an idea in who will be the players but at this point nothing but 1 is confirmed. Hopefully the third book will be available on audible soon.

This 2nd in the series successfully builds one the first

Beware of gifts offered generously. Accepting the scholarship comes a few strings was it worth it or are there consequences? Life as a senior is not always what is expected. This 2nd book was much better than the first. Now onto the next one.

Great Story!!!

I enjoyed the first book of this series, but I listen to audiobooks during my work hours so sometimes I forget to look for the new releases when they come out because of the quantity I listen to. When I saw the second book release on Audible Escape I added it to my library and put it on without much enthusiasm (I'm in a book rut). Hunter Trials was a good read, kept my attention, and then BAM! The plot twists and action enthralled me. I instantly texted my friend to add this series to her "must read" list. I really like the characters in this series, Mitch being my favorite! I have a big heart for those tough guys that actually care but pretend that they do not :)

Another Winner!

Book Two continues in it’s great storyline to show plentiful of action suspense mystery twists and romance. Narrator is superb. Life at the Academy is not easy for January. She finds out she is being followed. But who are they? She now is required to have a body guard Mitch who calls her Dirt Bag. Justin, January’s boyfriend comes up missing. And the suspense doesn’t stop there. Highly recommended this book! But you need to read the first in the series first. Couldn’t put either of them down. And me...I’m waiting for book #3.

I’m a fan!

I cannot wait for book three! Though not a huge fan of cliffhangers, this one wasn’t awful.
