About this listen

For a two-thousand-year-old Druid, Atticus O'Sullivan is a pretty fast runner. Good thing, because he's being chased by not one but two goddesses of the hunt - Artemis and Diana - for messing with one of their own. Dodging their slings and arrows, Atticus, his apprentice Granuaile and his wolfhound Oberon are making a mad dash across modern-day Europe to seek help from a friend of the Tuatha Dé Danann. His usual magical option of shifting planes is blocked, so instead of playing hide and seek, the game plan is... run like hell.

Crashing the pantheon marathon is the Norse god Loki. Killing Atticus is the only loose end he needs to tie up before unleashing Ragnarok - AKA the Apocalypse. Atticus and Granuaile have to outfox the Olympians and contain the god of mischief if they want to go on living - and still have a world to live in.

I've become a big fan of this series. I love Kevin Hearne's writing style and his stories. They're intelligent, well researched but still easy to read. His books are full of threads but never leave me feeling confused. Kevin keeps me entertained from the first to the last page.

I downloaded the Audible narration to listen to Hunted as well as reading. Christopher Ragland’s performance was once again outstanding. He transports me into each and every adventure. The pace at which he reads the story and the emotions he adds to the different scenes are perfect. I love the different accents he gives each character – his performance brings them all to life. Christopher doesn't have as wide an array of female voices as male ones. However, that's understandable and doesn't diminish his obvious talent.

While I’m talking about the characters, I must say how much I love them all in this series. They’re complex beings written with their own tales and histories. It makes each one feel real and believable. I love how much Granuaile is featuring now. We get whole chapters from her perspective in this book. Oberon, Atticus’ faithful Irish Wolfhound is still the BEST. He just lights up my heart in every scene he’s in. Hunted marks a definite change to the dynamics of the relationships between Atticus, Granuaile and Oberon but I can see how much more fun it's going to be!

Although the story felt fast and frantic it was never rushed, it unfolded at a good pace. Never giving us any more information than Atticus had. Therefore we journeyed with him, never really knowing when or where the next attack would strike. I loved the action-packed pace of this book, spending most of my time on the edge of my seat.

Hunted is the sixth book in the Iron Druid Chronicles so a lot has happened so far. However, Kevin does a good job of weaving any pertinent information into the story seamlessly. I didn’t notice any detrimental effects to the flow or pace.

I’ve become emotionally invested in The Iron Druid Chronicles and I've already bought them all. I can’t wait to see what trials and adventures Atticus, Granuaile and Oberon have to face next in Shattered!
