About this listen
THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS COME OUT – BUT AT WHAT COST?
Fresh from successfully closing their first live case, the Future Policing Unit are called in to investigate when a headless, handless body is found on a Warwickshire farm. But as they work to identify the victim and their killer, the discovery of a second body begins to spark fears that The Aston Strangler is back.
When DCS Kat Frank is accused of putting the wrong man behind bars all those years ago, AIDE Lock – the world's first AI detective – pursues the truth with relentless logic. But Kat is determined to keep the past buried, and when she becomes the target of a shadowy figure looking for revenge, Lock is torn between his evidence-based algorithms and the judgement of his partner, with explosive results.
When everything hangs in the balance, it will all come down to just how much an AI can learn, and what happens when they do…
PRAISE FOR JO CALLAGHAN:

However, if the books hadn’t been so good I would definitely have stopped listening due to the ridiculous Midlands accents the narrator opted for.
It was jaw droppingly bad. Beyond stereotypical, vowel sounds all wrong. She made every single person from the Brum/West Midlands sound very thick and slowwww. She pronounced local place names incorrectly and even the engagingly written Brummie police officer sounded like she shouldn’t be left to make a sandwich without supervision let alone be a detective sergeant.
And the Welsh pathologist….! Well it was more more a cross between Peter Sellers doing an Indian accent and a dodgy Italian impression by someone who’d had too many white wine spritzers. Not a highly trained, intelligent independent individual with years of experience and knowledge under their belt.
Every suspect from
the area too all had this thick unintelligent cadence synonymous with badly done Birmingham accents.
PLEASE use an actor who is either from the Midlands, there are plenty good ones! Or someone neutral/ get Rosie not to attempt any accents below Chester!
I hate saying this as I’m sure the narrator might be good at northern or neutral audiobooks but it was nearly enough to stop me listening.
I guarantee all the native Welsh and Brummie/ West Midlanders with accents will agree!!
Absolutely HOOKED despite the narrators awfully BAD Birmingham and Welsh accents!
