About this listen

Retired fencing Olympian Hugo De la Vega lives a quiet life in Olive Township. He has his friends, his olive orchard, and a recurring daydream about what he would say to his father's murderer if given the chance to look him in the eyes.

True crime podcaster Mallory Hawkins arrives in the eclectic small desert town with one purpose: to investigate Hugo's father's unsolved murder from twenty years ago.

A chance meeting at a sandwich shop has Hugo harmlessly flirting with Mallory, until he realizes she's the stubborn woman who has been hounding him for months. Hugo's swift and emphatic refusal to support her investigation forces Mallory to reveal her personal connection to the case.

Now Hugo is spending time with the woman whose emails he once deleted. She's witty, eternally curious, and pregnant. Finding this out should make it easier for Hugo to deny the magnetic pull he feels toward her, but it has the opposite effect.

When a situation threatens Mallory and her baby's safety, Hugo finds himself moving her into his house at the orchard. Now they're splitting time between a search for justice and fighting their mutual attraction... until a middle of the night encounter in the kitchen has them taking their relationship from professional to personal.

With each passing day, Hugo gets closer to laying it all out on the line for Mallory.

As long as the killer doesn't get to her first.

Hugo is the second in a four-book contemporary romance series inspired by the film The Princess Bride. Expect swoon, sass, spice, and happily ever afters.

I really enjoyed the first book In The Olive Township series and so I was so excited to be able to listen to Hugo which is book 2.
It was so much better than I expected it to be,Jennifer Millikin is becoming a must read/listen to author for me.
What an intriguing story this was...
Hugo De La Vega is a retired Fencing gold medal Olympian,he now runs the family's Olive farm. His Father Simon was murdered when he was young and the murder has gone unsolved.
The story has got the interest of True Crime Podcaster Mallory Hawkins...she is pregnant and single the father doesn't want anything to do with the baby.
She is desperate to speak with Hugo, but he keeps ignoring all of the e-mails she sends him.
So she decides that she will go to The Olive Township and seek him out in the guise of going to use the spa there, but it doesn't go as planned.
The thing is Mallory's reasons for wanting information on Simon De La Vega's murder is not just for her Podcast.
Because she has one thing in common with Hugo...A murdered family member...
Mallory's sister Maggie was murdered when she was only a young girl and she thinks her murder could be connected to Simon's murder.
When Mallory first meets Hugo he has no idea who she is and they flirt with eachother..and then in a heartbeat he discovers who she is and he is fuming.!!
What Hugo didn't expect was that his mum actually wants to talk to Mallory because it is time and he wants Hugo to set up the meeting.
That meeting and the revelation of Mallory's reasons for wanting to solve Simon's murder changes everything.
Hugo and Mallory become friends and form a bond and have a connection between them..because they both have family members who were brutally murdered and they understand eachothers grief.
They are 2 people who find solace within eachother..The attraction they both felt when they innocently first met still bubbles away.
They can't deny they want one another and the sexual tension is palpable, which Mallory has reservations about..She is pregnant how could Hugo want her.
Hugo is so swoony he is so caring and attentive and I loved the protectiveness especially when something that happens to Mallory and she ends up staying at his house with him.He adores Mallory and wants both her and the baby calling the baby his..I melted and it made me tear up a bit...What a Man !!!
Now roommates they become even closer...I did like Mallory she is so strong and flirty she is perfect for Hugo. But she has alot of guilt over her sisters murder, even her Mum blames her.
Hugo and Mallory work together to find out what happened the day Simon died and solve the murder once and for all.
I Honestly NEVER guessed who the killer was Jennifer Millikin had me guessing right until the reveal.
This book was Narrated by Marissa Clay,Aaron Donahue and Hannah Chiclona and it was absolutely perfect..
They all did Excellent performances as the characters they were portraying the emotions whether it was the playfullness, sadness, anger or passion it really showed in their voices and it was amazing!!..Even the Olive Township has a voice and it is such a quirky thing to add to the story.I absolutely loved listening to this Audiobook.
I found the ending quite emotional and I am hoping there will be more books in this series and that they will come alive through audiobooks as well.
I am loving Jennifer Millikin's imagination and writing.

Audiobook Review:
Narrated by Aaron Donahue, Marissa Clay & Hannah Chiclana.
New Narrators for me but they were really good and I loved listening to them. Enjoyed the banter, fights and spice these 2 gave was fantastic.
I don't usually lean into pregnant with another man's baby trope but this has kind of won me over.
Hugo is broken after his father's murder when from 2 decades ago. He doesn't do relationships other than his own family. He is a former Olympian fencer. Hugo is protective of those he cares about and has been ignoring emails from a certain crime podcaster.
Mallory is smart, fun and very single with a bun in the oven. She is a criminal Podcaster and a lot of time she has helped solve crimes via this. She also is trying to move on from the trauma of her 12 year old sister. I liked her calm, bubbly personality. Now a single mum to be, she has decided to come to Olive Township and meet Hugo face to face as he has been ignoring her.
When Hugo meets this new face he can't help but flirt with her until he finds out who she is. Then they enemies.
They had great banter, despite him not wanting her here, dragging his past he can't help but fall for her charismatic personality. It wasn't until she told him about her sisters murder.
We got the small town feel, great found family, alpha daddy bear, suspense, twist, chemistry, slow burn and spice. We didn't get Spice until quite later in the book but was worth it. I did kind of guess the murderer but it was written very well. Really enjoyed listening to this story

Book two in the Olive Township series delivers a gripping blend of romance, suspense, and emotion. Hugo and Mallory’s story is beautifully written and packed with angst, drama, a compelling murder mystery, and unexpected twists. Marissa Clay, Aaron Donahue, and Hannah Chiclana deliver an excellent narration that brings the story to life. Part of a four-book contemporary romance series inspired by The Princess Bride — and II can’t wait to listen to the next one!

I was so looking forward to this book after reading the end of the first book in the Olive Township series, Penn, and boy the author made it so worth the read! I was hooked right from the start, I just didn't want to put it down! I love the combination of romance and (murder) mystery and this one was chef's kiss. I did not see the end coming, that really was a pot twist for me and I really enjoyed that! I also loved the relationship between Hugo and Mallory, I really felt like they complemented each other and were just better together. I already liked Hugo in Penn, but with his own story, I fell hard and fast for the man, definitely book-boyfriend material. Mallory slowly but surely took my heart too, she is such a sweetheart but also a badass woman. I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait for more!

This book was so good! I enjoyed everything about it! The mystery, the suspense, the characters, the romance, and the storytelling. I was captivated with the book from the beginning and I am absolutely obsessed with this town and the characters. I can’t wait to go back and read the first book and I am looking forward to the Ambrose’s book as well!

Marissa Clay, Aaron Donahue, and Hannah Chiclana were phenomenal in this audiobook and I throughly enjoyed their narration.
