Having gone through the turmoil of lots of similar life experiences I found this book both insightful and uplifting. Giving hope and positively after heartbreak and life’s twists and turns. I recommend to anyone heading into mid life who needs some encouragement to live life again.

Uplifting listen

This is an exceptional listen from start to finish. Helen’s narration adds something really special - it feels like being gently supported by a trusted friend.

Since listening, I’ve found myself reflecting on how often I rely on emotional “crutches” (chapter 4) without even realising. The book came to me at the right time. I lost my father-in-law on New Year’s Day in very difficult circumstances, and it has genuinely helped me begin to process that sadness.

It has also given me a new perspective on the experiences of friends who have gone through marriage breakdowns, helping me to understand them better and, I hope, be a more thoughtful friend.

The inclusion of interviews with other inspiring women adds real depth and relatability. There’s a strong sense of shared experience - a reassuring reminder that you’re not alone in how you feel.

Above all, this book made me feel human again, and gave me a sense that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
