A seductively sinister romantic suspense from Audie-winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kylie Scott!

Over three decades ago, grunge rockstar Christopher Durand was shot down in the street by an obsessed fan, leaving behind an estranged wife and a child no one knew about—until a new biography reveals her identity. And all hell breaks loose.

Ruby Donnelly has lived a quiet, ordinary life with her adoptive parents. Suddenly finding out you're the progeny of a legendary rockstar who still has fans wearing his face on their shirts is a lot. And then there's the remaining members of her father's band. The reclusive and hot as sin guitarist, Andrew Brooks, in particular.

Tucked away behind the iron gates of his gothic fortress, Brooks hasn't faced the outside world in decades. Not since the night he watched his best friend die and nearly bled out beside him. He's grumpy, guarded, and far too certain he can keep Ruby safe from the media circus about to swallow her whole. The trouble is, the longer Ruby stays in his sprawling, secret-filled mansion, the harder it becomes to ignore the pull between them…and the more the official story of her father’s death starts to unravel.

Who killed Christopher Durand all those years ago? And will Ruby and Brooks be next?

This author is new to me but I'm glad a took a chance.
This book is so well written and the narration is brilliant.
I love good character development and a twist in a tale and this has it all.
My only disappointment....I wish it was longer but having said that it was still so good that I won't hesitate to read/listen to more by Kylie Scott.

So good!

Wasn’t expecting it to be so sweet but it was, especially the end, the narrator was also great! I enjoyed it way more than I expected to!

Unexpectedly sweet!

I’ve enjoyed most of Kylie Scott’s previous books and this is no exception. It’s relatively short, fast paced, and not too heavy. The story gets going almost immediately, it doesn’t drag, we find out historical context without having to do the whole back and forth stuff, and it’s full of great characters.

Ruby sets about discovering what really happened to her birth father, along with a journalist who is writing a book. Along the way she meets her father’s band mate Brooks (age-gap, grumpy, wealthy, recluse), and discovers there is definitely chemistry between them. There’s an ongoing mystery, a bit of a slow burn romance, some drama and some suspense, with a great cast of characters.

Andi Arndt as always does a really great job.

If you are looking for something humorous, with romance, suspense and a mystery then I recommend you give it a go.

A quick, enjoyable listen

Great, interesting story with lots of character development alongside the plot. Excellent narration by two gifted, experienced narrators who are so skilled they are able to create character definition which is convincing. Loved it! 💖💖💖💖💖
