About this listen

One clueless single dad...

Dr. Corbin Davis is a busy guy just trying to do his best as a single parent. He may be oblivious to a lot of things, but surely he would’ve noticed something as important as his 15-year-old son Grayson being bullied, right? And what the heck is nonbinary, and why hasn’t Gray shared this all-important part of himself with his own dad?

Plus one sassy Southerner...

Andy Ferguson, or Kandi as the Thursday night drag community knows him, is just trying to get along in a small town and hold things together while he takes care of his beloved Gam-Gam. If she’d just get off his back about finding himself a man, that would be fantastic, thank you very much. He’ll get around to love...one of these days.

Equals a pair of fake boyfriends who will keep you in stitches.

When Corb gets the wild idea to ask Andy to pose as his boyfriend to let Gray know that his dad is bisexual and open-minded enough to talk to about his nonbinary status, Andy is amused and just intrigued enough to say yes...especially since he seems to be in the market for a fake boyfriend himself, if it will get Gam-Gam to quit nagging.

I really enjoy Susi Hawke books and was interested to see what she would do on the contemporary side. I gotta say I like it and I can't wait to read more. Michael Pauley is amazing, and there's nothing he can't bring to life. He certainly knocked this out of the park

Awesome book, fantastically performed

The book starts off with Andy and his gran bantering/sassing each other, and that pretty much sets the tone for this fun, heartwarming story.
Andy is a barista, but once a week he turns into Kandi, his drag alter ego. At his coffee shop job, he has been crushing on Corbin, a widowed dad with a teenage son, Gray. Gray is going through a gender identity crisis, so Corbin uses this as way to get Andy's help and if he somehow gets to know Kandi-Andy better, bonus!

Michael Pauley knows how to do sass! And other emotions :) I had a lot of fun listening to him bring the characters to life. In my opinion, this is probably the better way to truly appreciate the humour, sense of family, friendship and love that is seen throughout the story.
It is always a pleasure to listen to Mr. Pauley; and this is no exception. I hope to there will be more of the series, especially in audio.

Good start to a new series!

When I read this book I loved it, to listen to it was so very much better. Corbin is at a lost over his sons behaviour he needs help understanding him enter Andy who is not shy at all, lots of great funny moments which made me laugh out loud many times, it's a joy to listen too, Michael Pauley was so enjoyable to listen to especially his take on Andy, as always his take on all the characters was entertaining, this will be listened to again by myself I really enjoyed it.

Entertaining

Well, this is a new take for one of my favourite authors, and it's a strong start to a great new series with interesting characters. I look forward to reading further books in the series.
Michael Pauley is amazing at bringing this cast of quirky characters to life.
There is also a free short story available that I had the pleasure of reading of the Holidays, as this story called How Not To Wait was part of a Prolific Works Holiday freebie giveaway, and that is also a cute, fun quick read.
Take one barista/Drag Queen Andy who has been living with his grandmother (Gam-Gam) since his parents threw him out at age eighteen for coming out as gay. Add one widower single dad, bisexual Cardiologist, Dr. Corbin (aka Dr. Hottie) and his non-binary (enby) teenage son, Gray. Mix in some meddlesome best friends, Dana, her daughter Becca, fellow barista Tracey, and a quirky Drag Mother called Honey Combover (aka Larry). Boom! What a rainbow!
After pretending to be each other's fake boyfriends initially, the camaraderie and feelings become real as the two start to wonder if they could try this for real, but two failed dates later due to family medical emergencies later and poor Andy feels like the universe is conspiring against them.
Both men are heartbroken when Andy calls time on their dying fake relationship.
One of them has to be brave enough to make the first move after their friends make them realise that their fake relationship was not so fake after all and worth saving.
I recommend you read/listen for yourself to find out what is the grand gesture that brings Andy and his Dr. Hottie back together as it's pretty awesome as the guys learn to show their true colours and their very real feelings.

True colours and real love
