About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

From the football cages of East London to broadcasting to millions, the engine powering Alex Scott's remarkable journey has always been her resilience. But thanks to a 'push-through mentality' the world has only ever seen the 'strong' side of Alex Scott. Now Alex is ready to lower the shield. In How (Not) to Be Strong, Alex shares the lessons that have shaped her, from finally confronting the legacy of a tumultuous childhood to tarnished truth behind the gleaming football trophies.

With raw honesty, Alex shows how she's tackled life's challenges and that sometimes the strongest thing you can do is show your most vulnerable side to the world.

I listened to this on audio whilst waiting for my signed copy to arrive. I was in tears for most of it. I have pure admiration for Alex to be that open and honest about her life. The emotion in her voice was truly felt when listening to her. The genuine openness was so brave and inspiring, I already thought she was one amazing woman, but this book takes it to a whole new level. Her strength is awe inspiring.

Honest, raw, open and truly amazing!

As if Alex Scott wasn’t already an inspiration, this inside look on her life has put her on a whole other level. Reading this as a WOC, who fell in love with football at a young age, I couldn’t have related more to some of the stories. Thank you Alex, if you ever see this, for being so vulnerable and showing us what it means to work hard and live authentically despite your pass.
