The Scottish Highlands; a sparse, mountainous region some say was carved by the gods themselves. Few places are as untouched as this harsh, prehistoric landscape. It is no place for man. When a group of friends travel up from Manchester and hire the cottage for a weekend of boozy fun, they discover a threat far greater than the harsh landscape and unwelcoming weather.

The night uncovers all we wish not to see. A troubled man enters a dusky park before sunset. A young woman follows, hidden in shadow. Both have returned to the park to take back something the past has stolen from them, to make right six long years of suffering, and to find justice or perhaps redemption - or maybe they'll settle for some old-fashioned revenge. But something evil is alive and awake in those woods, creatures that care nothing for human motivations. They’re driven by their own insatiable need: a ravenous, bottomless hunger.

Summary
A group of strangers is pitted against one another in Matt Shaw’s latest extreme horror.
The game is simple. Each of the contestants is asked a question: How much to complete a certain task? They then have two minutes to name a price, but if they go too high and their fellow contestants are cheaper, they have just priced themselves out of the game. The trick is to go high enough to win a good amount of money but low enough to ensure you are the winner. By the end of the bidding war, the person who is the cheapest contestant has to then go through, one by one, completing the tasks. No backing out allowed now....
But who is running this game? And more to the point - why?
Warning: extreme content not for the easily offended.

Wrong accents
Although the narration of this book was good overall, I find it a very strange choice that the book is set in England but all the characters are given various American accents by the narrator.

Brace your gag reflex and enjoy - fantastic!
I received a free audio copy of this book in return for an honest review. Wow! This gross-out story really tests your gag reflex to the max. Graphic in parts, this story asks that age old question of just how far would you go for money? And believe me, the characters here go pretty far - no bodily fluid is left untouched! Some might be thrown by the fact that the narrator is American whereas the story is set in the UK. Wasn't a problem for me. The narrator gave an excellent performance that really brought the book to life and the American voices he gave to the characters were spot on. Thoroughly recommended - but don't listen to it on a full stomach!

Definitely Don't Want to Play This Game
High level I thought the idea of the story was a good one, I did not think the execution of it was there. I felt like this story wasn't about the characters as you don't really get to know them that well and to be honest they weren't memorable enough for me to follow who was who throughout it. For a story that revolves around the plot, I felt it really needed to be stronger and not be just about how gross you can make it. I love graphic horror stories and this had scenes that will make you want to puke, that is for sure. Matt Shaw has a great way with words to describe situations and their detail down to such a level that there were parts that even I had a hard time with, not something I say often at all. While what occurs will offend the easily offended, I didn't find anything that far from the typical extreme horror I listen to that almost always comes with a trigger warning on the cover. So if you are looking for a story that will completely gross you out and allow you to indulge in your psychotic fantasies, look no further. Shaw is definitely an author I will add to my list for future listening. Matthew Berry did a good job with the narration. I liked both his narrator and character voices. As with any story like this I am Impressed with Berry's ability to read this with a steady voice. Yes, clearly this is a book that takes place in England, no Berry doesn't use a British accent, so what? I have heard tons of American stories being told by people who had a British accent, doesn't change anything. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

You Will Definitely Gag!
What would you do for money? This book explores the idea of how far desperate people will go to get some quick cash. What starts as a game of “How Much To” quickly unravels into a realistic horror story for the “winner” of the game. Short but intense. I binged this audiobook in one go. I’ve read several Matt Shaw books in the past, and I have grown used to the gore of his stories. This one wasn’t gory so much as it was gross. Lots of gagging moments, but it’s written in a way that makes it so hard to stop listening. You just have to know what will happen next, and for me, I found myself wondering if I'd be able to go through with The Game and what you would do if you were the characters. This latest book by Matt Shaw is definitely one you won’t forget soon after reading it. Narration was perfect. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Dark and twisted!
This was a good dark book, just enough details but not enough to slow the book down, honestly the only thing I would change is for it to be longer. Narration was amazing clear distinct voices for everyone, no mix ups or mispronouncing, people complaining about the accents are just trying to find a problem when there isn’t one. I received this book for free and left an honest review.

Extreme
First, be aware this book is fairly extreme in content. That can't be expressed strongly enough I went in expecting a different kind of horror (Slasher/monster type) not the psychological horror this actually is. Still it raised a number of self-reflections and was an interesting experience. I'm glad I did it, though I likely won't be looking for more in this line in the near future. I received a copy of this book at my request in exchange for a FAIR review.
