About this listen

Creative writing is any writing that goes beyond the boundaries of ordinary formal, journalistic, scholarly, or technological types of literature, usually characterized by the emphasis on narrative art, character development, and the use of literary conventions, or the different traditions of prose and poetry.

Due to the lack of definition, writing such as feature stories can be considered as creative writing, even though they fall under journalism, because the content of the features focuses specifically on narrative and character development.

Fictional and nonfictional works fall within this category, including novels, biographies, short stories, and poems. Within academic settings, creative writing is usually split into fiction and poetry groups, with an emphasis on writing in an original style, rather than imitating preexisting tropes such as crime or horror.

Writing for the screen and stage - screenwriting and playwriting - are often taught separately, but they also fall within the category of creative writing.

Part of me wants to applaud the irony that this book stresses the need to create beautifully created, proofread and professionally edited copy. There are so many grammatical errors, syntax problems and clumsy phrases in this book that it would be funny if they didn't have the bare faced audacity to charge good money for it. I think that this must surely be a very poor translation from another language. It reads like a 1991 Doge meme. In a bad way.
