David Morgan, RAF officer and poet, relives his experiences during the Falklands War in this vivid memoir. On secondment to the Royal Navy when the Argentine invasion of the Falklands began, and personally credited with shooting down two Argentine Skyhawks as well as enemy helicopters, Morgan was later awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. Here he recounts his involvement in the first British airstrike against Argentine positions around Port Stanley and describes being first on the scene when enemy jets bombed the landing ships Sir Tristram and Sir Galahad. Including the author's heartfelt letters sent back to England to close family and friends, Hostile Skies dramatically recalls what it was really like to fight, live and love during the Falklands War.

Its a very good read and well written
I enjoyed this, I know about the Falklands but it to hear about how it was for the people fighting the war, in this case the pilot of a sea harrier.
you don't realize how few aircraft the British had and also the amount of aircraft the Argentinians lost. the personal account of the battles really brought this to life.
I would recommend it

Falklands Top Gun
Great review of a Sea Harrier Fighter Pilot during the Falklands Campaign. In a daily format, from leaving UK, crossing the Equator, to approaching the Falklands and each mission description of any note; and of course the covering of the main events until the end of war. David Morgan defines his transition from Harrier GR3 to Sea Harrier; which is not a simple task as one might think. The cockpit's are different and the controls/options are more numerous. He also describes the characteristics of the Sea Harrier from flying, working in the cockpit and actual mission fighting whether ground attack (not a normal role for the SH) and the air to air role fighting Argentinian A4 Skyhawks, IAI Daggers, Pucara's and helicopters. Well worth a listen; it is quite enlightening as it explains the operating problems of Sea Harrier aircraft; taking the image of perfect aircraft to one with unwanted equipment problems such as radar failure to sidewinder's hanging up.

The best account of the air war overall.
I'm inclined to think this is the best account of the Falkands carrier war on Audible. Vivid accounts and anecdotes with a story that flows from begining to end. Struggled to put it down frankly. A very brave man indeed.

An interesting read
I plead ignorance, as I thought the Falkland’s war lasted a couple of weeks and had few casualties. How wrong I was. Certainly makes you think. Like Britain was in the Second World War, we were out numbered and fighting at a long distance. Yet somehow managed to pull it of ( at a big cost of lives ). This book made me appreciate what others do in order to try to keep us safe.

Honest memories of a warrior poet.
the honest recollections of a truly skilled pilot and warrior poet although the poetry was not my cup of tea. Good description of action over and around the Falklands but some of the more personal recollections of marital infidelity and love seemed out of place and at times too personal. Well narrated. Worth a listen.

Hostile Skies
Was it really over 40 years since the Falklands War? This vivid account transported me to the early 80s and put me at the heart of the action. The book is a great mix of the excitement of the aerial combatant, the anguish of loss and the frustrations of war.
Other reviewers have criticised the author for over-sharing his infidelities, and yet these flaws both haunt and humanise him.
As one would expect, legendary narrator, Peter Kenny does a brilliant job of breathing life into this account of the Falklands War. Highly recommended. 👍
