About this listen

The greatest adventure is coming back home.

Lila Metcalfe is a trainee journalist in Derby and she's very used to being given the stories that no one else wants. So, when her editor tells her that the city's Cossington Park development is being held up by a solitary resident on Hope Street who is refusing to leave, she knows she is going to be the one sent to find out more. And that's how she meets Connor.

Twenty-something Connor is the sole resident of Hope Street and he is not at all what Lila is expecting. And he has a very clear reason not to move: he is waiting for his mum to come home.

Just so well written. Fabulous twists and turns that make you lose faith in humanity but then a turn of events restore your faith! Connor was captured so well and his frustrations with the world were portrayed well. His inner dialogue and constant need to emotionally regulate really help us understand his struggles and triumphs.

This is the first time I have read a book by this author. Don’t want to give away the plot, yet this is an excellent story and will relate to many in different ways.

The characters are strong, the story is brilliant.
I loved Connor's unwavering faith his mum would not leave him. Everyone needs a friend like Marcus. Lila is great, as are the lesser characters like Alan and Katie. There were times when I could feel panic in what i knew was coming with some less likable people! To date, I have said 'the man I think I know' by Mike Gayle is my favourite but this is on a par, to be fair I love ALL his books, starting many many years ago with 'Dinner for two' give this a go, yiu won't regret it! also, hats off to the narrators, they were perrect for the characters. I'm a very happy listener
