About this listen

High-priced call girl, Tawny Dell boasts a client list that's part Fortune 500, part Five Families. With a PhD in art history and a tidy chunk of money stashed offshore, she hangs up her G-string with plans to retire to a Mediterranean island to open a gallery. Lincoln Walsh, NYPD sex-crimes investigator, has other ideas. He wants Tawny to work undercover at a high-class bordello to discover if a murdered call girl worked there.

The club, nicknamed Upper Eighties, is owned by an ex-hedge fund manager who'd do anything to hook Tawny into his harem. In exchange for Tawny's cooperation, Linc's office, in collaboration with Treasury, will see she avoids prison for failing to pay Uncle Sam his share from years of illegal earnings. But Tawny gets more than she bargained for - another dead prostitute, a mob boss who's an old client, and romantic stirrings for the hot New York cop sending her back into the world's oldest profession.

What disappointed you about Hooked?

This is the first time I've given up on an audiobook and I lasted till chapter 6. Firstly I thought this was a crime thriller, it's more of an erotic novel, it starts with sex and was still only sex when I gave up in chapter 6, definitely not what I was looking for. I also found it difficult to listen to as the woman narrating the book spoke in a low (I assume trying to be seductive) voice that was not helping.

What was most disappointing about Polly Iyer’s story?

I made it to chapter six and the story hadn't developed at all except telling the listener that the main character is supposed to be incredibly sexy and smart, the other main character is a drunk and desperately trying not to fall for the sexy lady and that the "bad guy" enjoys kinky sex ...

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She spoke in an extremely irritating drawl

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment as the description of the book was promising.

Thought it was a crime thriller ... I was wrong
