Summary

Scarlett McKennon’s life in the big city is a big flop.

Her cupcake bakery went under, her roommate at her expensive apartment left her high and dry, and her girlfriend just reacted to “I love you” with “No thanks.” Her sophisticated metropolitan dream has crumbled all around her, and the only thing left to do is pull up stakes and return to the small town where she grew up.

What could be worse than limping home in defeat? The minute she steps off the train, Scarlett finds out: her first love, Joan, is waiting there to drive her into town, looking like the picture of sexy confidence. Joan was once a scared, self-conscious girl; now she’s come into her own as a mechanic and soccer coach, and Scarlett can’t help but wonder what might have been.

Carrying on a secret high-school romance in a conservative town was brutal, and Joan hadn’t been able to take the pressure. She broke Scarlett’s heart in exchange for a “normal” life that was doomed from the beginning. Now that Joan’s divorced, fate keeps putting Scarlett in her path. They may have tried to forget each other, but their chemistry is still undeniable.

Both women start to wonder if they might be right for each other after all... But is the spark they both feel enough, or will their shared past prove too painful to overcome? Find out in this new lesbian romance by wife-and-wife authors Marian Snowe and Ruby Grandin!

The Battle Of The Big Big Closet.

The Battle Of The Big Big Closet. That should be the name of this book. A battle that will continue even after the story's HEA. Which in the real world happens, not every one can face coming out with ease.
I enjoyed the story but gave it four out of five because ...well because I wanted to stop rolling my eyeballs until they hurt at some of the hang ups. Honestly, it's a good book , my first time listen to a Marian Snowe, Ruby Grandin book . First time listen to narrator Amy Deuchler and it was a great team.
I received a free code for this audio book, my review is honest and unbiased. Hope it helps you dear reader.

Liked Scarlett

This book was good and I wanted to find out what was going to happen next, as I was hoping there would be this big turnaround of Joan’s, but there wasn’t, and she was so far in the closet even at the end of the book Joan still is not happy in her own skin, and it would have been better if Joan had gone on her own figured herself out, then end up with Scarlett at the end of the book. I really liked Scarlett as a character and I always want the two main characters to end up together and especially when I can read each other’s point of view, but this has been the first book that I didn’t want them to end up together and I think Scarlett would have been better off on her own than be with Joan. Scarlett is out and proud and says throughout the book she can’t be with someone who is in the closet, as her ex girlfriend and high school girlfriend (Joan) were in the closet and it led to her heartbreak, yet at the end of the book it’s clear that Joan is still scared about being who she is, and there were no I love you from Joan either. Maybe if a book 2 was written it could follow on from where it left off and show Joan opening up and coming out of the closet, Joan and Scarlett telling each other they love each other, then as time moves on Scarlett and Joan get married, then they start a family and then about their family life, as that’s all Joan ever wanted is kids.

This was the first time I have listened to Amy Deuchler and I think she well narrated the book, and I would listen to another book of hers.

Lovely Second Chance Romance

A nicely done second chance romance!
Marian Snowe weaves an interesting tale, and gives both of the main characters interesting backstories. I enjoyed how deeply she got into each of these ladies, slowly revealing their history as well as what's going on in their lives currently.

Amy Deuchler does a lovely job with both characters. It's the first time I've heard her narrate something and I'll definitely look for more by her.
