About this listen

'One of the greatest storytellers of our time' - Delia Owens, author of Where the Crawdads Sing

From the multi-million copy number one bestselling author of The Women, The Nightingale and The Four Winds, Home Front is a provocative and timely portrait of hope, honour, loss, forgiveness and the elusive nature of love.

An intimate look at the inner landscape of a disintegrating marriage and a dramatic exploration of the price of war.

'It’s not intentions that matter. It’s actions. My drill instructor used to say that all the time. We are what we do and say, not what we intend to'

From a distance, Michael and Jolen Zarkades seem to have it all: a solid dependable marriage, exciting careers and children they adore. But after twelve blissful years together, the couple has lost their way. They are unhappy and edging towards divorce.

Then an unexpected deployment tears their already fragile family apart, sending one of them deep into harm's way and leaving the other at home, caring for the children and waiting for news. When the worst happens, each must face their darkest fear and fight for the future of their family.

Praise for Kristin Hannah:

'Stuns with sacrifice. Uplifts with heroism' – Bonnie Garmus, bestselling author of Lessons in Chemistry

Critic reviews

By reversing traditional expectations, Hannah calls attention to the modern female soldier and offers a compassionate, poignant look at the impact of war on family
A wrenching depiction of war’s aftermath
An unusual premise, with mum going to war as an army reserve whilst dad has to stay home and keep things together. Interesting characters and the very real depiction of ‘life must go on’ as tragedy strikes and everyone comes to terms with what’s going on. Brilliant dialogue makes this a compulsive read

Gripping every emotion dealt with. Tears in abundance would definitely recommend. Narration excellent. Didn’t want it to end

Good reviews led me to choose this book , i did not know the author or her
work.
Im from the UK and a service family , no longer serving.
The story was gripping , i had no idea that it would unfold the way it did , that serving women would leave their families. I held my breath through so much of the book , i cried so much ! Always so hard to leave a great story but i found it so hard to leave our heroine .
Outstanding .

I don’t think I’ve ever cried listening to an audio book before. Another fantastic book by this amazing author. I hope she continues to produce these brilliant books.

There was nothing to dislike about this book. The narrator made everyone and everything real and the story held me in its grip from start to finish. I love all of Kate Hewitt’s books but this is more outstanding than any of the others!

I could not stop listening!
