Summary
Twins Matt and Emily Calder have imaginations so powerful that they can make art come to life. Their powers are sought by villains intent on accessing the terrors of Hollow Earth - a place where all the devils, demons, and monsters ever imagined lie trapped for all eternity. If Hollow Earth is breached, the world will be plunged into chaos. If Hollow Earth is breached... the twins are as good as dead.

hollow earth
John Barrowman is not only a great actor he seems to me to be an excellent writer with Carole E Barrowman the book was exciting and kept me listening at every opportunity I could find to listen to it it is an exciting book I felt drawn in to the story and found myself looking for excuses to get away from people so I could carry on listening to the book I highly recommend this book to everyone the first time I met John was on Dr who and he drew me in with his charismatic personality and energy I think he's pretty awesome this is a great book made even better with John reading it well worth a read

Actually more original that it sounds
When this book first began, I thought I'd heard similar before. Magic. Check. Remote island as stronghold from Evil. Check. People who are (gasp) not what they seem. Check. Unusually gifted children. Check. So I resigned myself to another challenging fantasy romp listen to keep my boys quiet (aged 9 & 11). It actually turned out to be really quite original, if a bit of a slow starter.
The same can be said for John Barrowman's narration. In the beginning I found him REALLY ANNOYING as he habitually broke sentences up and breathed in the "wrong" places. Oh and don't get me started on some of his American raised tones in sentences grrr.... Turns out that even good actors aren't very good at reading large amounts of prose!!
However just like the plot lines, the narration drastically improved in the second half of the books. More speaking lines and more action meant the aforementioned were less noticeable and JB's Scottish accents are just brilliant. Have already bought the next one.

Hollow Earth
I really liked the story and was hooked from the start. John Barrowman's narration brings the creative colour of the words in his native Scottish tongue.
I will be listening to Bone Quill next.

I enjoyed it enough to want to buy the paper versi
I really enjoyed the story. however john barrowman.. as much as I love him...reads with a state of permanent glee. even when things are scary or sad. would be interested to hear it read by another.
off to listen to the next one now. even with the glee.

Wonderful book
Would you consider the audio edition of Hollow Earth to be better than the print version?
I did not have the print version of the book...but I'd say the audiobook must be way better than the printed version simply because it is narrated by John Barrowman :D
What other book might you compare Hollow Earth to and why?
I do not like this question since I think every book is unique so I do not do comparisons
What about John Barrowman’s performance did you like?
What's not to like? He is always wonderful in everything I just love his voice. Anyway I listened to this book and I was lost in the book in a good way, all characters had different voices and the narration was just great. I enjoyed the book very much.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Actually I had ...I was extremely disappointed that it ended so soon :D so I bought the second book :) I loved it and I just felt like I was in the book myself.
Any additional comments?
I recommend the book for everyone, I already listened to the second book but I am looking forward to more books.
