Summary
We’ve all heard of fake news, but what about fake history?
Dominic Sandbrook explores two and a half millennia of human history, traveling from the American Deep South to the air raid shelters of wartime Britain, to discover how the past has constantly been manipulated, rewritten and reshaped.
It turns out that when it comes to history, separating fact from fiction isn’t always easy. Many of the widely held beliefs about our past are based on a web of lies.

Informative and balanced
I have been hooked on listening to podcasts but what is more and more annoying is they drag out the detail. This audio book is not like a book more like a really well edited podcast with no wasted words, knowledgeable contributors and Dominic Sandbrook gets to the essence of the story he is telling and makes it compelling listening. I just wished there was more of it!

Incredibly relevant to today's discussions on race, nationality and identity. It's too simple to say that history is written by the victors. This series looks at the interpretations as much as the sources of what is taken at face value as "historical facts ".

Non arrival in my Library... try again Audible...
I am the same as Jacqueline. I would like to review this but it won’t let me listen even though you say it’s in my library.
When you rearranged the Library you upset the apple cart as far as I am concerned. Half of the books I have purchased are not in it. Well done, Audible. You will lose customers.

Gripping history
Incredibly absorbing. Dominick Sandbrook takes us from Soviet Russia to the English Civil War to the Blitz, separating the truths from the lies. Beautifully produced, it is a gripping listen. So many fascinating facts that I listened to the whole thing in one sitting and plan to re - listen again. An outstanding historical podcast - stunningly presented AND an easy listen. Tip top.

OK but not great
OK I've been spoilt by the quality of Audible free offerings lately so my expectations are probably too high, but this didn't quite meet the mark. It was OK. It was informative. It was presented well. It just wasn't something I'm going to recommend or chat to my friends about. Just lacking something I can't quite put my finger on.

Overall giod
Found it puzzling that before the chapter regarding the American Civil War the narrator felt the need to clarify it was recorded before recent events and that's why there was no mention of it.
It was also ruined slightly by hearing about the vile Jeremy Corbyn in another chaptet

Wonderful short summaries
Wonderfully produced and written short snippets of history exposing history myths vs truths and real accounts. A really good listen.
