Summary
The lady captive: Being a daughter of one of the Legendary Bastards of the Crown proves to be a blessing as well as a curse for Fia Douglas. Having both English and Scottish blood, she is being fostered in Northumberland per the late English king's wishes. This puts her far from her beloved family and homeland of Scotland.
When war breaks out between England and Scotland, Fia finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Alone with a wounded Highland spy in the late queen's secret garden, she ends up being kidnapped by the Scot and brought back to the Highlands, where she is now a prisoner in her own land.
The Highland laird: Laird Alastair MacPherson is wounded and left for dead after being ambushed on English soil. When he stumbles into a secret garden in the woods to find refuge, he discovers a red-haired beauty whose life he'd saved several years earlier. She is inclined to help him so she can pay back the favor. But when his life is threatened once again, he is backed into a corner and has no choice but to use her as a hostage to escape.
Can a rugged Highlander love a lass whose secrets threaten to ruin his one chance at redemption? And will a woman who has fallen in love with her captor be able to betray him if necessary?

Loved the narration as well as the story.`
This is the first book of four in this series by Elizabeth Rose. Ms. Rose is a relatively new author in my TBR list and I was pleasantly surprised by the rhythm of this book and how well the story blended with the accent and speech patterns of the narrator, Kevin E. Green. I haven't looked yet, but I hope he does the remaining books as well, but if not, I'm sure I'll enjoy the stories.
I'm giving this five stars overall because, in any audio book, it isn't just the story but the narrator that has to be nearly perfect. I listen on my phone, my PC, my Kindle, and my iPad, and the quality of each is different. I'm happy to say that the quality was outstanding on this book. Now, on to the next ones!

Loved every minute of it. This is the 1st book of the series Secrets of the Heart. This series is about the daughters of the Legendary Bastards series. This first one is about Fia, Reed's first born daughter. The narrator was very good. I like Kevin Green he has a different voice for each character. This book is definitely worth a credit. Highland Secrets
This story was fantastic, it told the story of Fear and Alastair. Fear was one of the English Kings grandchildren, her Father was Reed one of the Bastard Triplet Sons of the King. Alastair had become leader of his Clan and was Scottish. The Scots hated the English. She recognised Alastair from three years previous as she had done something to help him at that time. Eventually he took her as hostage with a view to swapping her for his Father who had been imprisoned by a rival clan.
The narration was excellent with many different character voices performed by the narrator. I enjoyed every word of it. Miss Rose is an amazing story author and each Audible recording has been wonderful.
I have not been disappointed, just the opposite in fact.

Fast paced and entertaining
This is a good paced story with plenty of action. Fia is a thoughtful and caring woman but also brave when needed. Alastair is a laird who is handsome and brave but has conflict within his own clan. Their attraction to each other is evident from their first meeting, however there are many obstacles in their way, including Fia’s allegiance to both her English relations and her Scottish family. The narrator had an easy voice to listen to and he used different voices for the characters to bring them to life. His voice for Alastair was a bit gruffer than I imagined but this didn’t spoil my enjoyment. This was an entertaining audiobook and I look forward to hearing about the other women in the series

The story is about Fia Douglas who is the eldest daughter of one of the Legendary Bastards of the Crown and Scottish Laird Alastair. I thought it was well written and Kevin E Green really brought the story to life. It had a secret garden, mystery, twists and turns, family that is close, love and even magic. Sensational Story
I listened to Highland Secrets, the first book in Elizabeth Rose’s Secrets of the Heart series, and was surprisingly pleased. I don’t normally listen to audio books, as I get easily distracted and can’t follow the story. Kevin Green’s voice was pleasing to hear, and as a result, following the story was easy! The story itself was sensational, introducing you to the the four sisters and cousins, their training in a secret society of strong women, and the love story between the eldest, Fia and Alastair MacPherson. I can’t wait to listen to the next book!
