Summary

Finished listening to all of Bridgerton? Discover your next favourite regency romance novelist, Beth Andrews.

While her older sister is being presented to London Society for the season, Lydia Bramwell is sent to her Aunt Camilla in the Sussex countryside. High-spirited Lydia expects a very dull visit, but her sojourn to the village of Diddlington is not as idyllic as she anticipates . . .

A charred and bludgeoned corpse is found in the woods, and suspicion falls on Lydia's aunt's suitor, an intriguing Frenchman. Convinced of his innocence, Lydia enlists the help of her new friend, John Savidge, to catch the real killer. But before their dangerous adventure ends there will be more than one unexpected discovery.

Fans of Julia Quinn, Wendy Soliman, Mary Balogh, Jenny Hambly, Lisa Kleypas, Jean Rowden's historical mysteries or Jane Austen will love this romantic regency murder mystery.

One of these books which you can relax with. Great characters, funny story with great societal observations.

Brilliantly funny.

But the behaviour of the characters, especially the heroine, was unbelievable for the period.
Too many basic errors, eg a baronet is not a member of the peerage and an underage girl could not get engaged before her father was asked for permission, which the man would seek.
And the solution to the murders was obvious much too early.

I felt this story was not that engaging for me. The narrator did a good job but felt storyline was not too my liking

Ok

The childish voice of the narrator made me think that the heroine was more of a spoilt child than a young adult. The story itself didn't quite work for me. Would. a 17 year old young lady have had such confidence or be so outspoken among strangers in this time period? Only finished it because I don't like leaving books incomplete.
