Welcome to Hex, Indiana....
Poe: As the king of the crossroads demons, I hold all our secrets, and they aren’t all fun. I do my best to keep things running properly and modernize when I need to. But crossroads demons are slowly finding their truths, being released from duties, and I’m starting to flounder. Becoming the head of Hex, Indiana’s leading council has helped, but is it enough when I’m used to ruling over thousands? I’ll help anyone however I can, but what if I’m the one that needs it?
BB: I’m a bat shifter with the confidence of a piece of string. So, none. I have no family and I’m too scared to get close to anyone. The only reason I know about Hex, Indiana is because of an incident in a store where I panic shifted into a bat. Afterwards, a strange lady appeared and told me to go to Hex. I snuck in three months ago, but now I’m too afraid to do anything other than go to work. The one thing saving me is knowing I’m close to the demon I met as a teen. The one that said if I needed anything, to let him know. He’s handsome, but I won’t ask him for help. Just knowing he’s around is enough, even if our first and only encounter lasted less than ten minutes.
When the pair meets again, Poe’s world turns upside down, and BB learns what it’s like to have someone looking after him. What happens when a possessive demon falls head over heels in love with a sweet bat shifter?
Hex Marks the Spot is a fluffy, spicy MM paranormal romance featuring a sweet life inexperienced bat shifter and the king of the crossroads demons ready to help BB find his confidence and enjoy life.

Story - A very enjoyable addition to the other books about the hidden town Hex. Poe has been a part of the other stories, and now we have the opportunity to learn more about him and crossroad demons. Beau is a sweet but very traumatised bat shifter who receives all the support from Poe. There were more characters introduced who will be the focus of new books in this interesting world.

After losing his family from a lightening strike when he was very young, BB is absolutely terrified of storms. He wears room darkening shades and noise cancelling headphones that don't work on severe storms. When a predicted four day storm system comes through, he loses it.
Poe was interrupted at a council meeting by the news that there's a panicked bat flying around the ceiling of the Hex food market. He's told that he's on BB's emergency forms.
Unable to calm BB, he brings him to the demon realm. There, he finds out the young bat wasn't vetted or entered in the town register. With the safety of all residents at risk, Poe needs to find out how he got in. Turns out, the town wards were breaking down and tiny BB slipped through a tear in the veil. For something that put the entire town at risk, the tear plotline and resolution was pretty rushed. Yes, I know, this was a romance and the author wanted to concentrate on her MCs. But this was also rather problematic.
Poe was cursed to be the original crossroad demon. I read the e book first and thought maybe I skimmed over why he was cursed.Listening to the audio, I realized it was never explained. Poe's angst about not being a good man was keeping him from claiming his mate. So it would have been nice to find out why he was cursed.
BB was a delight. Mostly. Innocent and sheltered he was also anxious and angsty. As Poe dropped back, BB became emboldened. It was nice to see the bat lose his timidity.
Zachary Zaba did his usual excellent job with the narration. It did bring out the best in author Lysand's prose. Yes, the plot was a little uneven. But I think the found family support of each other and Sparkles championing of BB, made it better. Raised my rating from a solid 4 star to a 4.5.

I love the wonderful world of Hex and the unique and fun cast of characters that Morgan Lysand has created for us. Poe is caring and sweet and helps Beau overcome his fears of storms and they quickly fall in love.
Zachary Zaba is such a joy to listen to as he brings the magic of Hex to life.
This is the first book of the series but there are 3 books from multi author series that have characters that tie into this series that I would recommend reading to enrich your enjoyment : Kisses at the Crossroads follows Lark and Pike, The Nephilim’s Touch follows Gabe and Van, How To Summon a Memory follows Warwick and Ethan
*paranormal MM romance
*hurt/comfort
*fated mates vibe
*bat/demon

I didn’t thoroughly read the description before picking up this audio and starting it and I honestly thought that Poe’s name was Beau and that Poe and BB had the same name though the majority of the book, lol. Sometimes it can be hard to hear pronunciations properly with audiobooks.
I felt so bad for BB and what he went through when he was young and that Poe couldn’t help him then. I honestly still don’t really understand why Poe couldn’t help him at that time, but I understand it enough to know that he would have if he could have. Still really sad though.
Hurt/comfort romances are one of my top favorite tropes and I’m a sucker for them, and this story definitely hit me in the feels. The way BB reacted during storms was so cute! I mean, depressing for him, but like come on, he’s a little bat and it’s adorable! I think this is actually the first bat shifter story I’ve read, but if it isn’t, it’s most definitely the first one I’ve read where shifting into the bat was a prominent part of the story.
I highly recommend picking up this story, ebook or audio, doesn’t matter, both are fantastic!
