Story
There is no sun. There is no moon. There is only gray - the smog belched from coal-fueled factories. The Workers silently shuffle to their assigned posts. The Outcasts watch from the alley walls. On every corner, a Watcher stands stone-faced, a rifle in hand. This is the only life that exists. Beyond the mountains is a dream. But dreams are foolish in a place like this. Hannah has spent 19 years dodging Watchers and doing as she is told. When she wakes to the valley exploding in revolution, Hannah is forced onto a dangerous path, where nothing is what she believed.

Story
Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

OMG, so good!
I've been waiting for this book for what feels like an age, I really loved book 1 and it feels like book 2 has been a very long time in coming, so I was very excited to start listening to it and I had very high expectations. Thankfully the book lived up to the hype that I built in my mind. It picks up shortly after book 1 and all of the characters I loved so much from the first book appear in this book as well. During the book, there's a lot of tension, there's a lot happening in the book it moves at quite a fast paced most of the time. The characters bravery and determination shine through, during both the action scenes and during the dialogue. I found I couldn't stop listening to it, despite the length being over 6 hours I listened to it in one go without any breaks. The narration is first class, Stacey is an narrator I can listen to over and over. She has great emotional death in her delivery and the character voices are always distinct and somehow managed to match the personalities of the characters, it was a joy to listen too. I'm looking forward to book 3, hopefully it doesn't take as long as book 2 did. I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Hannah. Is. Awesome.
I fell in love with Hannah in the first book, Slave. She was wide-eyed innocence caught up into something she didn't understand in that book. In Hero, she's growing into her own. She's a bit headstrong and makes some mistakes, but Hanna is awesome! Stacy Glemboski is an excellent narrator. There are some ups and downs and some growing pains for Hannah in this listen. The narration kept everything in flow. I'm glad there is a book three. There is a bit of a jolt in this listen and I can't wait for the next installment.

much better than book 1
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. So, going into this book, I was dreading it. I didn't really enjoy the first book very much. I thought the main character was whiney and weak for someone who supposedly grew up in a harsh, dystopian world. That being said, this book was much better. The main character is not as whiney in this book and comes across as having more strength. A MUCH needed change from the first book. The narration in this book is still very good. I wouldn't classify this book as a favorite, but it definitely redeems itself from the first book.

Sequel to Slave
Great sequel and builds upon the first book. I had received this book first and after listening I went back and read the first book before going back to this. It’s a short book so if you don’t like it you didn’t lose too much time and if you did well you’ll eagerly await the sequel
