Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

From the worldwide Number One bestselling author behind the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning HBO series Big Little Lies and smash hit bestseller Apples Never Fall.

We’re all so busy, caught up in life's moments, big and small . . .
The flight attendant working a shift on her birthday.
The mother struggling alone with two young children.
The newlyweds excited about their tropical honeymoon .
The overworked father missing his kid’s big show.
The young man returning from his best friend’s funeral.
The ER nurse wondering what retirement will bring.
All strangers. All unsuspecting. Each with a life heading in a particular direction – or so they imagine.
Because an elderly woman is about to step into each of their paths. In just a few words, she will make a prediction, tying herself to all of them. And, in being bound to her, these disparate strangers will all face similar existential dilemmas. .
Who is this woman? Is she a genuine clairvoyant? A charlatan? The answer to prayers, or a harbinger of nightmares?
What she will prove to be is an agent of chaos, fraying relationships, putting entire futures into doubt and causing the most ordered of lives to unravel in the most unexpected of ways . . .

Editorial Review

Liane Moriarty always keeps me guessing
Between character, setting and plot, I’m pretty much always a character person. And while the characters in Here One Moment are each fascinating and complex in their own right, I was blown away by Liane Moriarty’s plotting. The narrative is so intricately layered, each detail so carefully placed, that it left me awestruck. Our central character, Cherry, is on a flight when she stands up and proceeds to predict the age of death and cause of death for the passengers on-board. What unfolds from there is a riveting and chaotic meditation on free will versus fate as the passengers deal with the predictions in different ways once back in their real lives. It’s a compulsive listen, performed by Moriarty’s longtime collaborator Caroline Lee as Cherry and Geraldine Hakewell as the other passengers, and one I will be recommending for the rest of the year. — Katie O., Audible Editor

Critic reviews

Liane Moriarty is a genuine GENIUS. Here One Moment is off the scale brilliant. The book of her career, I wish I had written it. Warm, witty, wise and wry (Marian Keyes)
Whenever Liane Moriarty – the mastermind behind Apples Never Fall, Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers – has a new book out, we prepare for a two-day binge read. Here One Moment is no exception
A compulsive plotline, intriguing characters, great writing, surprises, humour and tragedy. It'll stay with me (John Boyne)
Liane Moriarty is a master story teller. I read it in one sitting, desperate to know what happened to these characters I’d so quickly come to care about. Brilliant and satisfying (Bella Mackie, Sunday Times bestselling author of How To Kill Your Family)
Simple and effective premise . . . short, sharp chapters ensure you devour this doorstop of a book
Prepare to be gripped by this stunning new novel from one of the best writers in the business. Absolutely brilliant
Brilliant, charming, and invigorating . . . a fresh, funny, ambitious, and nuanced take on some of our oldest existential questions.
A riveting story so wild you don’t know how she’ll land it, and then she does, on a dime (Anne Lamott, #1 New York Times bestselling author)
I adored Here One Moment. I genuinely could not put it down, and it's an absolute masterclass in storytelling. I treasure every word Liane writes, because she has such a rare and deep understanding of people and human behaviour. Whenever I reach the end of her books, not only have I been superbly entertained for four hundred pages, I also find I have learned so much more about myself, and to find those two qualities in one novel is very unusual. I am in awe of Liane's writing, she truly is a genius
Funny, frightening, heartbreaking and life-affirming. Here One Moment delves into the notion of fate and its freedoms and constraints, mortality, fear, friendship and love. I adored it (Chris Whitaker, New York Times bestselling author of We Begin at the End)

Boarding a plane, her fellow passengers have no idea they are about to be told their fate. The Death Lady, as she comes to be known, tells each person, including children, how they will die and at what age. As she walks trance-like through the plane, many passengers ask her to stop, while others are keen to know.
Each individual has knock-on consequences from her revelations, with some making life-changing decisions in the hope of 'cheating' death.

As several of her predictions become true, some passengers are keen to speak with her, hoping she can reassess her calculations. But she seems to have disappeared.

Moriarty has written a clever, twisty tale that will make you think twice.

After all, we have only been here once.

Well worth reading.

I am a definite fan of this author having listened to all of her previous titles. All are great but this had an even more captivating story as well as a really thoughtful eye opening look at personalities and behaviours. So many characters yet easy to follow and easy to care about them all.

Loved it. Captivating and thought provoking.
