About this listen
Ariana has been stuck inside a cage as long as she can remember.
From one master to the next, she hasn't known kindness since her parents were alive, and even then, she never belonged to herself. When a handsome werewolf saves her from the fighting pits, Ariana's life is turned upside down.
Thrown into a brand new world, Ariana discovers she's not only a wolf but the Silver Shifter, a being born every 100 years, and she's supposed to be the last. But her hot new alpha is hiding more than he's telling, including the alphas of the other New York packs.
Wolves. Dragons. Bears. Panthers. Each pack is holding back a secret from her, like why Ariana feels an unnatural pull to each.
Contains mature themes.

Spice level is minimal to mild (though my usual fix is very dark indeed so interpret my assessment of the sensuality of the novella with that in mind). There's very little steam, sizzle or soaring (apart from that on wings). In one case our heroine has decided she can trust someone and desires him based on just three or four short comments he makes. As you might expect, that's the bear-shifter. What does the child need to cuddle up with when listening to a fairytale but a teddy bear?
Of course, we're expected to believe in the instinct Ariana's wolf has about whether each of the alphas are her mate(s?) but, imo, it's fairly lazy writing on the part of the two authors that they give us so little on which to build our understanding or acceptance of the surety of that instinct. The novella - and possibly the rest of the series which we're clearly meant to be tempted to purchase - seemed to me to be the fantasy romance equivalent of a potboiler or mass market paperback - something churned out with boring frequency to achieve a regular income from moderate early sales and then modest cheques as payment for amalgamated royalties.
As you might guess, this ends on a cliffhanger, though I hesitate to describe it as such since much of the peril which that word implies has already been removed by the close of the novella. I won't say that any angst has been resolved as that suggests some level of creativity which is definitely absent throughout the tale. Which shifter does our FMC feel immediately warm and safe with? The teddy bear which any small child keeps close of course. Which alpha lives in luxury in a penthouse complete with butler, cook and a garage of expensive vehicles? That just has to be the dragon because we all know that they're as rich as Croesus since our fairytales tell us that they hoard gold and jewels. I could go on but you get the picture.
This was free in the Plus catalogue when I listened but I'd have been cross if I'd paid for it. Needless to say, I won't be buying any of the others from the series and wouldn't listen to this one again unless I was paid for my time. It wasn't a creditable introduction to the work of either author so I'm unlikely to actively seek out other work from both of them. Rather a waste of listening time, instead of acting as an enticing shop-window - pity really!
Predictable in a lacklustre and lazy way
